Superman director James Gunn’s reaction to the Supergirl premiere wasn’t what fans expected. Last week, DC Studios released its second film set in the universe.

What did James Gunn do after the Supergirl premiere?

In a recent interview with People, Jennifer Holland, who is married to James Gunn, explained how her husband reacted after the Supergirl premiere. Rather than staying to celebrate with the cast, he immediately went back to work.

“He went home directly after the premiere to go film again, because he’s just—he loves it,” she said. “He’s a workaholic, so it’s his favorite. He’s like, ‘Oh, gosh, life is so hard. I’m working all the time,’ and then he gets one day off, and he’s like, ‘I don’t know what to do with myself. I don’t know what to do with myself.’ So, you know, he’s happy working.”

Gunn’s high level of productivity is well known in the industry. Since releasing the first Guardians of the Galaxy 12 years ago, Gunn has worked on and released five feature films and several TV shows. That includes 2 other Guardians of the Galaxy films, one Christmas special, The Suicide Squad, Superman, two seasons of the Peacemaker TV series, and Creature Commandos. The director surprised many fans when he announced that the Superman sequel would arrive in theaters just two years after the first film.

Gunn is currently filming Man of Tomorrow, the sequel to 2025’s Superman. The filmmaker is also overseeing multiple projects set in the DCU, including the upcoming Clayface, Lanterns, the Gorilla Grodd TV show, a Wonder Woman film, and a Batman movie.

Man of Tomorrow will see Superman and Lex Luthor, at least momentarily, join forces to fight against Brainiac. The film will also see Supergirl and Aaron Pierre’s Green Lantern join the Man of Steel.

Supergirl is now playing in theaters.
