A major Superman star is done filming Man of Tomorrow. The actor wrapped his scenes on James Gunn’s DCU sequel and had plenty to say. The news comes as production on the upcoming movie continues.
Superman’s Frank Grillo is done filming Man of Tomorrow
Frank Grillo has officially wrapped his role as Rick Flag Sr. in Man of Tomorrow, the follow-up to James Gunn‘s 2025 Superman movie. The actor took to Instagram Stories to share the news and revealed how the experience left a lasting impression on him.
In one Instagram Story, Grillo wrote, “Nothing but love. Wrapped!!” while tagging Gunn directly. In another Story, he added, “Always sad and happy when a special one ends for me. But I leave with love and gratitude deep in my soul.” He also tagged producer Lars Winther and the official Superman and DC accounts.

Grillo went a step further in the same video message, describing the production as “extraordinarily fun” and calling the DCU “like nothing else.” He also had words for the film itself, “I think the movie’s going to be f—ing dynamite, and everybody is great. So more to come.”
He praised his co-stars as well. Grillo called David Corenswet a natural fit for the role, saying, “David [Corenswet] is Superman. He is Superman. And he’s that wholesome.” He also gave a nod to Nicholas Hoult, who plays Lex Luthor, suggesting the actor deserves a shot at playing James Bond, “If Nicholas Hoult isn’t cast as James Bond, they made a great error.”
Grillo closed out the post with a simple tease, “Superman: Man of Tomorrow is coming.” This would be Frank Grillo’s fourth appearance in Gunn’s DCU, following Creature Commandos, Peacemaker, and Superman. Principal photography on Man of Tomorrow kicked off in April, with filming taking place primarily at Trilith Studios in Georgia, as well as locations in the United Kingdom and Ohio.
The film brings back David Corenswet as Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, with Milly Alcock as Supergirl, among many others. Gunn returns as both writer and director.
Man of Tomorrow hits theaters in July 2027.
