Ryan Gosling is being replaced by another A-lister in Daniels‘ upcoming movie. The director duo of Everything Everywhere All At Once is working on a new, untitled project.
What actor is replacing Ryan Gosling in Daniels’ sci-fi movie?
According to a report from Deadline, Matt Damon is set to replace Ryan Gosling in Daniels’ upcoming sci-fi movie. An official deal hasn’t been finalized yet, but it appears likely that Damon will get the role after Gosling’s exit due to an extremely busy schedule.
Gosling was recently seen in The Fall Guy (2024), The Actor (2025), and 2026’s Project Hail Mary. He will next be seen in Star Wars: Starfighter. The movie also stars Mia Goth, Flynn Gray, and Matt Smith, among others.
As for Damon, he’s going to be seen in Christopher Nolan’s anticipated epic adventure, The Odyssey. He will be portraying the role of Odysseus, the Greek king of Ithaca. The acclaimed actor was recently seen in 2026’s The Rip alongside Ben Affleck. He was also featured in 2024’s The Instigators, Drive Away Dolls, and 2023’s Oscar-winning Oppenheimer.

The yet untitled film, helmed by directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, will be produced by the duo’s company Playgrounds as part of its deal with Universal Pictures. Jonathan Wang is also producing along with the duo. Sara Scott is serving as the executive producer.
Details on the project are still under wraps at the moment. It’s been over three years since Daniels’ last major film, Everything Everywhere All At Once, stunned everyone at the 2023 Oscars. It eventually won seven awards, including Best Picture, Best Direction, and Best Actress, among other categories.
While most of the cast members for their next film will be young, Daniels wanted a well-known star to draw attention. Details on the rest of the cast will be announced in the near future.
The untitled sci-fi movie is expected to be released in November 2027.
