Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley’s Frankenstein spin-off The Bride! has set a release date for its debut on HBO Max.
When is The Bride!’s HBO Max release date?
Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that The Bride! will release on HBO Max on May 22, 2026. It will then premiere on HBO Linear on May 23 at 8 p.m. E.T. A separate version of the film with American Sign Language will also stream on HBO Max, performed by ASL Dubber Yamila Davis and directed by Rosa Lee Timm.
The film offers a new take on 1935’s Bride of Frankenstein, which took liberties with Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel Frankenstein. A part of its premise also carried over into Guillermo del Toro’s Oscar-winning Frankenstein.
“A lonely “Frank” travels to 1930s Chicago to ask groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious to create a companion for him,” reads the film’s synopsis. “The two revive a murdered young woman and The Bride is born. What ensues is beyond what either of them imagined: Murder! Possession! A radical cultural movement! And outlaw lovers in a wild and combustible romance!”

The Bride! released in early March this year to divisive reviews, and collected a paltry $23.9 million at the global box office. Despite its poor performance, ComingSoon’s own Jonathan Sim liked the film. In his 8/10 review, Sim described The Bride! as “beautiful and profound in its best moments, and gloriously messy in others.”
Besides Bale and Buckley, the film also stars Annette Bening, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Penélope Cruz. Buckley plays the dual roles of Ida/The Bride and Mary Shelley, with Bale playing Frankenstein’s monster.
The Bride! is written, directed, and produced by Maggie Gyllenhaal, and is produced by Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Talia Kleinhendler, and Osnat Handelsman Keren. The film’s executive producers are Carla Raji, David Webb, and Courtney Kivowitz.
