“You don’t need Mathematics to study some courses anymore” — JAMB spokesperson explains new admission policy
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has clarified that Mathematics is no longer compulsory for admission into some university courses across Nigeria.
Speaking during an interview with Nigerian Television Authority, JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin explained that the waiver only applies to certain programmes where Mathematics has little or no relevance.
According to him, courses like Hausa, Arabic, and Christian Religious Studies may no longer require a credit pass in Mathematics for admission.
He also stated that universities and other stakeholders jointly decide admission policies during annual policy meetings led by the Minister of Education, adding that the change is aimed at aligning Nigeria’s education system with global standards.
