Dorohedoro Season 2 Episode 6 Review: Arguably the Best Episode So Far

I am literally at a loss for words after today’s Dorohedoro episode. I mean, the previous episode did hint that something big was about to happen soon, but Season 2 Episode 6 delivered a lot more than I could ever expect.

Not only did all the major characters from the series appear in the episode, but it also took the mystery aspect of the storyline to a whole new level; a level so high that even I was struggling to comprehend it!

So here, I have addressed each of the events I found exciting from today’s episode (not in a chronological order, however), along with my honest opinion on them.

After Years of Buildup, the En vs Caiman Fight Is Finally Here

The series has been building toward the long-awaited confrontation between En and Caiman for the past few episodes, and now it is finally here. After En found out Chota’s disguise, the poor, furious fella wasted no time and rushed to bring Nikaido back. The devil-contract between them also helped him locate.

But neither Nikaido nor Caiman anticipated it. While Caiman was busy catching up with the remaining Cross-Eyes, like Dokuga, En just crashed into their place. In a jiffy, he turned almost everything around him into mushrooms. (I can never look at En’s ability without thinking it is comically overpowered!)

Anyway, then came the epic fight between En and Caiman. It was such a feast for my eyes. Also, both of their motivations were understandable, which increased the emotional weight of the fight. However, En’s mushroom magic is way too powerful, and with a tactical move, he almost kills Caiman!

Well, Caiman did return to land another hit on En, but he was not the Caiman we knew anymore! His lizard transformation was undone, and we could finally see his actual face. This might be the series’ biggest revelation yet. But despite that, he could not exactly win against En. So what happened to him?

Caiman’s Assumed Death Scene Raised So Many Questions

Caiman’s fight against En shook up the entire storyline. As Caiman supposedly died, black smoke with a human shape came out of his body. Was it Risu? We do not know yet, but it was certainly something extremely evil, as it appeared. I could not wrap my head around what that thing exactly was.

Finally, it went up to the revived Risu’s artificial body and consumed it whole & appeared even darker in that form. Even Dokuga and the other Cross-Eyes could not manage to tame it down. Honestly, it is still a mystery to me. The presentation also turned eerie, and it raised so many questions, like, is it the leader of the Cross-Eyes? Is it Risu’s real self?

That said, the episode also gave enough focus to Ebisu and Fujita near the beginning, and it really seemed like Ebisu is gone now (unfortunately). Then there was the flashback with Dokuga and the other Cross-Eyes. It also hinted at the real identity of the Cross-Eye leader. And is it just me, or did this figure actually look like Caiman’s original face?

And last but not least, didn’t Kawajiri manage to prevent Caiman from his inevitable death? At least, that’s what it seemed to be in the episode.

Dorohedoro Season 2 Episode 6: Final Verdict

Right from the opening theme (which is such a banger) to the En vs Caiman fight, and finally more teasers for the series’ overarching plot, Season 2 Episode 6 was nigh perfect. The thrill has me glued to the screen the entire time. Even the animation, for some reason, looked really polished in this episode.

Thus, considering how the episode turned out and how the story is progressing, Dorohedoro Season 2 Episode 6 deserves a much higher rating than usual. Not sure if it can maintain the same level in future episodes, but my hopes remain positive. It will also be interesting to see how Season 2 ends now.

Dorohedoro Season 2 is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
