The latest episodes of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord are now available, and like earlier installments, they include several references to the broader Star Wars universe. These Easter eggs have become a notable element of the series, which centers on Darth Maul.

Here are some of the key Easter eggs featured in episodes 3 and 4 of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord.

List of key Star Wars easter eggs in Maul – Shadow Lord Episode 3 and 4

Maul’s Tea Ceremony With Devon

At the start of episode 3, Maul invites Devon to join him in a tea ceremony. He reveals that it is Cassius tea, the same tea he was served by Pre Vizsla during Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Rylee participating in the sport

Brander Lawson’s son, Rylee, is shown playing a sport that resembles lacrosse. The head of the sticks was first seen in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, set earlier in the Star Wars timeline.

The Jedi Hunters

Maul – Shadow Lord includes a reference to the Jedi Hunters. This appears to connect to the Imperial Inquisitorius, a group of Force-sensitive dark side users trained by Darth Vader.

The Sith Shadow

A scene in Maul – Shadow Lord features a stylized shadow of Darth Maul that resembles Darth Vader’s appearance in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This visual style has been used in previous Star Wars projects.

Whispers from Maul’s lightsaber

In the new episodes, it is suggested that Maul’s lightsaber has been communicating with him. This detail adds to the mystical elements of the Star Wars universe.

A reference to Mandalore

In a dialogue, Maul refers to the Siege of Mandalore from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which involved Ahsoka Tano and connects to the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. He also mentions turning to the Pykes after escaping Republic custody.

Master Daki’s advice

Master Daki advises Devon, “to not let her judgment be clouded by her desire for vengeance.” Thus, reflecting a recurring theme in Star Wars storytelling involving mentorship and restraint.

Maul’s cybernetic legs

During a fight sequence, Master Daki destabilizes Maul by striking his legs, referencing his cybernetic limbs. This connects back to Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, where Obi-Wan Kenobi defeated Maul.

The episodes also include additional references, such as the arrival of a Star Destroyer and the presence of nexu creatures.

The first four episodes of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord are now streaming on Disney+.
