The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, will be leaving Netflix in a few weeks. While the movies initially received mixed reactions from both fans and critics, they have since gained strong followings.

The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2 are leaving Netflix

Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2 are leaving Netflix on March 1, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix). The movies served as a reboot for the Marvel hero after the cancellation of Sam Raimi’s fourth Spider-Man movie.

The Amazing Spider-Man was released on July 3, 2012, with Garfield as Peter Parker, a teenager who gets bitten by a genetically modified spider and becomes the titular superhero while trying to learn the truth about his parents’ association with Oscorp Industries. When Peter assists his father’s ex-lab partner, Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans), with an experiment, it backfires, transforming Connors into the Lizard.

The sequel premiered on May 2, 2014, which upped the stakes with more villains and deeper emotional themes. The movies also star Sally Field as Aunt May, Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben, Denis Leary as Captain Stacy, Jamie Foxx as Electro, Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, and Campbell Scott as Richard Parker.

Marc Webb directed both movies, and they collectively earned more than $1.4 billion at the box office. The first film grossed  $757 million, while the sequel brought in $708 million. Critically, the films received mixed responses, holding Rotten Tomatoes scores of 71% and 51%, respectively. Sony had initially planned for more sequels, but they ultimately canceled a third installment.

Despite the critical response to the story, Garfield’s performance and his chemistry with Stone were highly praised. While Stone never got to reprise her role again as Gwen Stacy, the Oscar-nominated actor returned to his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. The movie made more than $1.92 billion at the box office.

Fans celebrated his return in the MCU movie, later sparking social media campaigns to make The Amazing Spider-Man 3 happen. However, during an interview with GQ, the Hacksaw Ridge actor reiterated that the third movie is “not happening.”
