A pair of new rumors about Robert Downey Jr.‘s role as Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday sheds some light on what we might expect from him.
What are the latest Doctor Doom rumors for Avengers: Doomsday?
According to a new rumor posted on X from insider My Time to Shine, fans who are worried about Doom looking like Tony Stark might not have to. The insider noted that, while Downey will appear in the movie without his mask, “MCU heroes never will” see Doom without it, meaning they won’t know that Doom looks like Stark, nor have to reconcile with it.

The insider also went on to say that Downey’s Doom will speak with an accent, so he won’t sound like Stark either. Should this be true, it seems like this would be Marvel Studios’ workaround to making Downey play the character and having people concerned that other heroes might recognize him.

In a separate spot, My Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez also shared some information about what Doom might be using to try and “fix” the multiverses. Perez responded to a fan connecting Doom to Loki as someone the character might try and work with in the movie. Perez said that was wrong, and then made reference to the Word of God, a book in the world of Marvel Comics that contains powerful magic and is often used to manipulate reality in some way.
While Perez didn’t say it, he hinted that Doom could be using this book in the movie to try and manipulate the world to his whim, potentially leading up to the creation of a “Battleworld” in Avengers: Secret Wars.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to release on December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars is set to release a year later on December 17, 2027.
