Pro Bono Episode 11 reveals the truth about Jang Yeong-sil’s father. It was Kang Da-wit who confronted him to tell the bitter truth. If you didn’t manage to piece it together, Yeong-sil is the illegitimate son of Chairman Jang Hyeon-bae.

Attorney Myeong-Hun has been hired by CEO Bae and Dr. Oh of Oh & Partners to defend Chairman Hyeon-bae after claiming that Da-wit manipulated his trial. He claims 1 billion won in damages, claiming that Hyeon-bae was later acquitted, and the wrongful trial defamed him.

He presents evidence that all the attorneys who sued Chairman Hyeon-bae for physically assaulting them have taken their statements back and that the s*xual harassment charge filed by the housekeepers could not be proved. However, Yeong-sil stands up to his father in court, proving video recording as well as bringing his mother for testimony.

He had revealed in previous episodes that he was physically assaulted by his father for having a stutter, and when he stands up against him in court, it looks like he might end up crying. But he later puts on a brave face and faces him with courage. Even his mother, who is the Chairman’s live-in partner, boldly reveals that Hyeon-bae would assault the housemaids regularly.

What Happened to Da-wit’s Case and Is He Guilty?

In Episode 10 of Pro Bono, the courtroom rattled when Kang Da-wit openly confronted his own motivation in a controversial trial involving Yoo Jae-bum’s father. Da-wit, previously a judge accused of abusing his position, confessed that revenge, fueled by his mother’s tragic death linked to the factory owned by Yoo Jae-bum’s father, drove his decisions.

However, in Episode 11, Gi-Ppeum asks him if he really manipulated the trial. Da-wit declines, stating that it was Jae-bum’s mother who helped him make the right decision. The team goes to question the mother of the student who had died in the factory fire, and they discover how Da-wit had not manipulated anything, but it was all the truth. The factory owner, Yoo, was brutal to his employees and was making the kid work for free after he took some damaged sheets of paper home.

Gi-Ppeum then called the factory overseer and told him that whatever he said now, he would not be tied for it since the statute of limitations had passed. She presents the floor plan and the mini-door, which Mi-Seon apparently tried to get out of, but broke his hands and feet while trying to escape.

While the factory overseer initially denied any malpractice, he later accepted that he was the one who locked the door upon instruction from Chairman Yoo. This makes Da-wit stand up and accept that back then, he couldn’t prove anything but made his judgment fairly based on Chairman Yoo’s admission that he had under-budgeted on safety measures.

He asks the court to decide whether he was right to issue the judgment or if he acted out of revenge. The court acquitted him and dismissed all the charges.

What Happens to the Pro Bono Team?

Even as the courtroom drama unfolds, Episode 11 makes it clear that the pro bono team’s struggles are far from over. Although their success against Yoo Jae-bum’s father marks a dramatic victory in legal terms, their professional future is suddenly at risk.

CEO Bae dismissed the team, thus firing them all. However, thanks to his connections, they are able to get a new office and a fresh start when Da-wit leases a new place for them. But things suddenly go the wrong way when Dr. Oh and CEO Bae decide to take Da-wit to court again for Chairman Jang Hyeon-bae’s trial.

In the second trial that we see, after Yeong-sil presents evidence, Da-wit asks for Shin Jung-seok (the former boss of Da-wit and currently a Supreme Court judge) and Dr. Oh as witnesses in the case. Thus, Episode 11 of Pro Bono doesn’t just bring revelations about Yeong-sil’s father; it reframes the entire conflict of the series.
