It has already been confirmed that Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki will be returning in Avengers: Doomsday, even though season 2 of Loki concludes with him taking the reins of the multiverse. According to a new scoop from @JamesMackwl, the character could have another defining moment in the MCU. The scoop in question alleges that another major character, barring Captain America or Thor, will wield Mjolnir.
i heard that another character will lift Mjolnir in a fight against Doom in Avengers Doomsday, besides Steve Rogers (obviously excluding Thor) pic.twitter.com/qRZKkEJiGt— James Mack (@JamesMackwl) January 8, 2026
Given that Captain America lifting Mjolnir in Avengers: Endgame remains one of the MCU’s most iconic, character-defining moments, it’s safe to say the alleged Mjolnir scene in the forthcoming movie will carry similar narrative weight. On that note, Loki seems the most likely candidate to lift the sacred hammer.
Why Loki Wielding Mjolnir Makes Perfect Thematic Sense in Doomsday
The god of mischief has come a long way from his initial beginnings as a trickster in the first Thor movie. Since then, the character has undergone several notable arcs, especially in his own Disney+ series, which concluded with Loki finding his glorious purpose.
Although Loki season 2’s ending marked a beautiful conclusion to Loki’s MCU run, with the MCU now eying to bring him back for the multiversal war against Doom, they need to give him enough material to justify this return.
And what other way to amplify his comeback than by allowing him to wield his brother’s Mjolnir, a literal showcase of his growth as a character. From the god of mischief to someone deemed worthy enough to lift Mjolnir, if done right, this has the potential to embed itself as one of the most poignant payoffs in the MCU, from which the movie will definitely benefit.

In contrast to the Infinity Saga, the Multiversal Saga has been more of a mixed bag, and the MCU’s decision to pivot back to Captain America and Thor has fueled skepticism among fans. Considering the major event movies post-Endgame have heavily relied on nostalgia bait, many fear the same trend would continue with the upcoming Avengers entry, given its huge roster.
Hiddleston, on the other side, has assured fans the ensemble feature won’t disappoint on that front. While details regarding the movie’s story remain under wraps, which is par for the course for an MCU production, he teased that fans will be in for a surprise, claiming the movie will attempt something that hasn’t been done before (via Deadline).
The center of the story is absolutely brilliant, and was so surprising when I read it. It just has never been done before.
It’ll be interesting to see if Doomsday can offer something fresh, especially in the current climate where fans are no longer warming up to run-of-the-mill CBM stories. Hopefully, the Russo brothers won’t drop the ball with the alleged Mjolnir moment in Doomsday.
