Selling The OC star Alex Hall has broken her silence on her split from Ian Young, revealing that their breakup was far messier than what initially appeared.
The former couple announced their breakup in November 2025 during an Instagram Q&A, after several months together, with Hall describing the situation as “a complete cluster f***.”
“I moved to Temecula with an open heart, but some things came to light that did not align with what I want my and my kids’ future to look like,” she said, according to Us Weekly.
The split came shortly after the release of Selling The OC Season 4, in which the couple appeared to hint at possible marriage plans. “Trying to merge both [lifestyles] is what we’re trying to figure out right now. But everything’s going great, and I’m still very excited,” Hall previously told Tudum.
Nearly two months after the breakup, Hall opened up further about what happened behind the scenes. “I’ve been crying on and off all day,” she shared on her podcast, reflecting on the emotional toll of her split from Young.
How Alex Hall’s Relationship Spiraled Before Her Painful Split
During the Pretty Dirty with Alex Hall podcast, Alex Hall revealed that her relationship with Ian Young had unraveled long before their official breakup, describing a slow emotional spiral that intensified once their future together became real.
What began as excitement over moving in together and buying a home in Temecula soon exposed deeper issues, Hall says, that she initially overlooked. “I have overanalyzed every detail of our relationship,” Hall shared on her podcast. “When we got back together that third time, when we bought the house. That’s like the honeymoon phase for us.”

However, things started to change even before they moved in together. “There is a serious, serious switch with him after the three-month mark. He completely changed. It was like he didn’t like me,” she revealed.
“I would lessen myself,” she continued, “I was the only one compromising.” Hall also alleged that her trust in Young eroded after she discovered what she described as an inappropriate relationship with his real estate agent, including deleted messages that left her shaken.
“I questioned everything,” she shared, noting that the loss of trust caused their connection to spiral further. As tensions escalated, Hall said she no longer felt emotionally safe in the relationship.
Ultimately, she chose to walk away despite wanting it to work on their relationship. “My heart is shattered,” she admitted, calling it the hardest breakup she’s ever endured. Hall also recalled incidents where Young screamed at her and called her names.
“He would say, ‘You’re a psychopath. Get the f*** out of the house. I’ll give you your money, just leave,” she recalled. Although she said she was willing to do anything to repair the relationship, Hall ultimately realized her efforts were to no avail and made the difficult decision to end it.
Alex Hall Reveals Breakup Was Harder Than Her Divorce
During the recent episode of her podcast, Alex Hall also reflected on how deeply painful her breakup with Ian Young was, describing it as the “hardest breakup” of her life despite having previously gone through a divorce and raising two children.
“It’s been the hardest breakup, which is crazy because I got divorced with two kids,” Hall revealed on her podcast. Before her relationship with Young, Hall was married to her ex-husband, Neil Flores, for seven years.
The former couple share two children, Gia and Jacob. Hall filed for divorce in 2015, and they continue to co-parent their kids, as per The Tab. She explained that the divorce was less painful because she was no longer in love at the time, something she says was not the case with Young.
“Going through a breakup with somebody who you have this vision of every single thing you’re going to do, it’s like the beginning of the love,” she said, while reflecting on her relationship with Young.
She added that it was the possibilities of what their future could have held, including an engagement and a happily ever after, that made the breakup especially heartbreaking.
