Written by Stranger Things creators Duffer Brothers are under fire after clips of the documentary Beyond Stranger Things went viral on social media. In one of the episodes, which reveals behind-the-scenes details, the cast and the creators talked about the romantic moment between Sadie Sink’s Max and Caleb McLaughlin’s Lucas.
Sink admitted that she was nervous about the scene and even stressed out, since she was just 15, and it was her first kiss. Ross Duffer revealed the kiss wasn’t in the script, and he was only initially joking about filming it.
However, when he saw how strong Sink’s reaction was, he decided to actually film it. He then went on to add that it was the actress’s fault that the kissing scene was filmed.
Fans Blast the Duffers Over Sadie Sink Kiss
Ahead of the Season 2 premiere, Variety also spoke with the Duffer Brothers about having underage actors and kissing scenes in the show. The first season featured a kiss between Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard, and there was reportedly some drama about it, as Matt revealed to Variety.
So much drama around that! Whenever we make them kiss it’s like oh my god, it’s like a two month buildup.
Meanwhile, Matt added,
Give me a break! They had to kiss three times. You’d think it’s the end of the world. But I guess it’s a big deal. Caleb, I think it was his first kiss. It was definitely Sadie’s first kiss. But then even Millie and Finn had never kissed before.
Actually though neither of the kisses were written in the script, so we kind of dropped that on them the day of and caused a major panic. But they did it. It was fun. I love it. You have to torture them a little bit. You know you’ve got to entertain yourself some way. And we have all these children who are just fun. I know exactly how to push their buttons at this point.

When the interview was published, fans had similar reactions and blasted the duo for their alleged misconduct. Now the controversy has resurfaced, but neither they nor the actors have made any remark regarding the same.
Sadie Sink Maintains She Never Objected to the Kiss

Fans were pretty upset with how Sadie Sink and Caleb McLaughlin’s kissing scene played out in the Stranger Things Season 2 finale. So when TheWrap asked about the same to the actress, she reckoned it wasn’t that big of a deal.
She told the publication that she never objected to the kiss but was nervous since it was their first time kissing anyone.
I mean, of course I was nervous because it’s a first kiss, right? But I never objected to [it] or felt pushed into anything.
Adding that the scene was important for the characters and the story, she also defended the Duffers, stating:
I always felt comfortable and the Duffer Brothers, they do the best job. And always create a comfortable space. And if I felt uncomfortable with anything, I wouldn’t have done it.
When TheWrap had asked her again if anyone ever prepped her on what to do or say about the scene, there was a pause, and her publicist told the publication to move on.
