Neil Druckmann has come with an update about The Last of Us. The hit franchise has received multiple remastered releases, with two mainline games released so far.
Now, Druckmann has given fans hope, stating that the franchise is far from done. Speaking about the future of the franchise, he said, “We’re not done with ‘The Last of Us.’ There’s a couple projects in the works that, when the time is right, I’m very excited to talk about.”

Given the divisive reception to the sequel, it remains unclear when Naughty Dog will reveal its next project in the franchise.
What Naughty Dog could be planning next for The Last of Us
The possibility of a Last of Us game being available for the next console is not completely out of the realm of possibility. A new entry could eventually give PlayStation players another major first-party release to anticipate. However, a release from one of its most lucrative game IPs could help players feel validated.
However, Naughty Dog needs to be careful about how it markets its game and what story it chooses to follow. While The Last of Us II had plenty of great gameplay and a brilliant story, certain choices made by the studio had not sat well with fans at all, even leading to death threats being sent to one of the game’s voice actors, Laura Bailey.
Druckmann pointed to multiple expansions for the franchise being in development, which bodes well for fans. This means that Naughty Dog might be confident in its new direction, sinking time and effort into multiple projects, while facing the challenge of maintaining goodwill among its audience. It remains to be seen whether Naughty Dog’s bet pays out in its favor, or the fandom has to endure another toxic game release for the franchise.
