Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be much bigger than its predecessor, with the X-Men confirmed to be making their official entry into the MCU after Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine. But the question is, will Anna Marie LeBeau, aka Rogue, be in it, too?
Well, it’s not looking good for our favorite mutant. So far, Professor X, Magneto, Cyclops, Beast, Nightcrawler, Gambit, and Mystique are set to be in Doomsday, and Rogue’s name is nowhere to be found.
However, insider @variablelace, best known for sharing the leaked images of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, reported that Rogue won’t be a part of the mutant squad in Doomsday.
According to the insider’s post, which has seemingly been removed from X (via CBM),
I will say this is everything I’ve heard BEFORE the reshoots they’re planning, so maybe they could possibly be added…I personally doubt they would play any major role if they were to be added…my money is on Secret Wars.
Along with Rogue, Storm, and Jean Grey, they are also not expected to appear in the upcoming Avengers film.
All About Rogue’s Powers in the Comics
Rogue, aka Anna Marie LeBeau | Credits: Marvel Comics
Rogue is one of the most tragic mutants on the team, thanks to her ability to absorb life force and memories through touch. She is forced to live a life of isolation, away from any kind of physical intimacy, struggling to figure out her own identity.
While she eventually finds the love she has been deprived of for far too long in Gambit, fans get to see a different side of the mutant, one that makes them sympathize with her.
Rogue’s primary power is absorption. With even the briefest of physical touch, she can drain the other of their memories, abilities, and life force. Imagine how she felt when the love of her life fell into a coma because of their kiss? The aftermath was even more heartbreaking since she finally learned of his role in the infamous Mutant Massacre.
While her power allows her to gain the person’s abilities and the upper hand, it certainly comes with a much higher price to pay. She also permanently absorbed Captain Marvel’s superpowers.
Apart from this, Rogue possesses the usual superhuman abilities, including super strength, stamina, durability, agility, reflexes, and more. She can also fly. Moreover, she is skilled in acrobatics and is an exceptional swordsman, having been taught by her brother, Nightcrawler.
Will Anna Paquin Reprise Her Role in Avengers: Doomsday?
Anna Paquin played the role of Rogue in the X-Men films, including a cameo in Days of Future Past and an extended part in the film’s Rogue Cut. It has been over a decade since we last saw her as Marie, but would she be willing to return?
The answer is yes, surprisingly. Talking to Entertainment Tonight in April 2024, Paquin revealed that all it would take for her to reprise the role is simply “being asked” to do so.
She went on to voice her disappointment about not being able to fly in the X-Men films, which is something she would want to fix if she were to ever return. Paquin said, “I never got to fly, come on.” Just like her, fans have been upset about the films basically ruining her character. But hey, at least she got redemption in X-Men ’97!
Well, if Paquin makes her return in Doomsday, perhaps the Russo Brothers would be able to make her dream come true!
