A new rumor suggests what the future of the Avengers franchise will look like after the Doomsday and Secret Wars movies.

Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday is currently in post-production. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers, the film is currently scheduled to be released in United States theaters in just a little over a year. The sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, then arrives in 2027.

What is rumored to be the next Avengers movie after Doomsday and Secret Wars?

Scooper Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus was asked what the future of Marvel’s Avengers series will look like after Secret Wars.

Perez answered, “They’re already, as we speak, planning the next Avengers storyline. The current rumor I’ve been hearing for the past two years points to another cosmic storyline, with many different routes they can take.

“One route they originally planned was the massive blockbuster team-up film tying into Judgement Day, featuring the Eternals, the Celestials, and the Horde. A newer route they plan to take features a smaller-scale story with Annihilus and the Annihilation Wave, who will serve as the main antagonist of the film and be introduced in an upcoming Disney+ project as a secondary antagonist for the Nova Corps. The villains of that show would be high-ranking members of his army, possibly Admiral Salo or one of his concubines, Eradica, Extirpia, or Extermina.”

This should be treated as just a rumor at this time. Marvel has not announced plans for another Avengers movie after Secret Wars, and likely won’t for some time. There’s been much speculation that Annihilus will make his MCU debut at some point in the near future — specifically, many are hoping that Marvel will adapt the “Annihilation” crossover event — though no plans to do so have been officially announced, either.

Avengers: Doomsday releases on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
