Although the brilliant acting chops he displayed across the course of over five decades of his career have been thoroughly commended and acknowledged with all the accolades he holds to his name, Charlie Sheen has also been a notoriously popular controversial figure. This goes all the way back to when he was still playing Charlie Harper in the hit sitcom Two and a Half Men.

Then there’s the fact that he himself admitted to not having practiced “safe s-x” at all times, all the while going by the story that he has slept with more than 5,000 women. However, amidst all of this, it also seems like the 58-year-old Sheen has matured a lot after finally owning up to his HIV-affected medical condition — at least a lot more than what he was like during his time on TAAHM.
Charlie Sheen Has Matured After Coming Clean About His Condition
Back in the day, Charlie Sheen got into a lot of controversy because of all the vexed statements he made during the time he publically struggled with addiction and drug abuse. This proved to be especially more problematic during his messy departure from Two and a Half Men in 2011 and the chaotic turn of events that ensued.

For instance, the one time he mockingly responded to a TV journalist in 2012 after they said “People are thinking you gotta be on drugs,” saying:
Sure, I am on a drug and it’s called Charlie Sheen. It’s not available because if you try it once you might die and your face will melt off and your children will weep over your exploded body. Too much?
While that is enough to set the picture, Sheen, over time, seems to have changed.

This stands somewhat true, especially after considering everything the Platoon star had to say in a candid interview with The Guardian from around a year after he came publically clean about his being HIV-positive. If anything, he truly may not have practiced “safe s-x” at all times, but he has definitely matured a lot since TAAHM.

In the Guardian interview, when he was asked if “he can admit that his problems stem from him being so self-destructive,” Sheen’s response was:
Not anymore, because that prophesy will self-fulfil and it’s also sort of linked to my condition. There were just a couple of times I didn’t practice [safe s-x] and you might think, that kind of thing only happens to others. But that’s not my future anymore. Which sucks!
So, Sheen has truly matured from the wreck he used to be because of the drug abuse? Well, it definitely seems like it. But what’s more and further proving this point is the actor sharing that the only thing he wants now, at this stage, is for his kids to be proud of him.

During the same interview and in a candid turn of revelations, Charlie Sheen continued to talk about the one thing he wants now, at this stage, after coming so far from the person he used to be. Going completely unhinged, he admitted:
I’m out of things to prove. I just want my kids to be proud of me when I’m here and when I’m gone. You know?
Needless to say, that leaves no space for doubt. Adding to this was his declaration that he was now focused more on “owning my part and being mature and responsible and at times awesome,” so looking at Sheen with a different perspective than what he used to be like just might help.

All of this being said, it truly becomes inevitable that running around like the “bad boy” he was perceived to be all the while not having “safe s-x” as his forte may have been a phase the 58-year-old actor went through, but he has most certainly grown out of it and matured since then, especially after owning up to his medical condition without fearing of the consequences anymore.
