X-Men ’97 creator Beau DeMayo says he considered casting Jon Hamm in a villainous role.
DeMayo created the first season of Disney+ and Marvel Studios‘ X-Men ’97 show, which premiered in March 2024. At least two more seasons are currently in the works; however, DeMayo was fired as the show’s head writer around the time that the first season premiered.
Hamm, meanwhile, has long said that he’s wanted to be part of the MCU. The actor has stated that he previously had conversations about playing Mister Sinister; however, it never came to fruition.
Just recently, Hamm said, via ScreenRant, he doesn’t know if he’ll ever be cast in the MCU, but he still would love to do so if given the opportunity.
“Nobody knows what’s going on in the secret world of that company,” Hamm said. ”I do know that I have a lot of… I have a lot of appreciation for that world, so hopefully that’s reciprocated. Why not me?”

With many people online now talking about how they’d like to see Hamm join the MCU in some capacity, DeMayo has revealed he “considered him to voice #Bastion at one point.”

The role of Bastion, an X-Men villain created by Scott Lobdell and Pascual Ferry who made his first full Marvel Comics appearance in 1996’s The Uncanny X-Men #333, went to The Monkey’s Theo James. The voice cast of the show also includes Ray Chase as Scott Summers/Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith as Ororo Munroe/Storm, Cal Dodd as Logan/Wolverine, and more.
Hamm can now be seen playing a character named Andrew Cooper in Apple TV+’s Your Friends and Neighbors. The first two episodes of the show are now available to watch on the streaming service, with new episodes continuing to drop weekly until the season finale airs on May 30, 2025.
