Bill Hader and Ali Wong have reportedly split after dating for two years, as sources have confirmed. Apparently, the reason behind their split is that the couple struggled to find time for each other while navigating their busy work schedules and family obligations.
An insider claimed to PEOPLE,
It was too difficult to make the relationship work with Ali’s upcoming stand-up tour and Bill’s various film and TV projects this year. Now, they’re focusing on their work and kids, while continuing to support and root for each other.
However, while their romantic relationship has reportedly come to an end, sources say that things remain “very amicable” for the two. As a source said, “They are very much friends and still in touch.” But while that’s that, what’s making even more headlines is the viral emotional photo of the two that is currently leaving their fans devastated.

In new photos shared by Page Six, which are reported to be from around two months ago, Ali Wong and Bill Hader both looked visibly upset as they bid farewell to each other. In the photos, the two shared an emotional goodbye as the Saturday Night Live alum walked Wong to her car in Los Angeles on Nov. 21, 2025, per the outlet.
After walking to the vehicle, the two looked at each other before embracing as the Beef actress’s eyes started to well up. Then Hader proceeded to kiss her on the lips and intimately brushed her hair out of her face. Wong was then seen clutching onto his arm as she looked away with a solemn expression.
Wong then got into her car and chatted with Hader for a bit from the seat, with her side of the car door open. At one point, he even leaned inside the car, and she grabbed his chin softly with her hand. However, as emotional as this moment was for them, it wasn’t immediately clear if these pictures were snapped at the time of their reported breakup.
These pictures, surfacing amid news of their breakup, have fans devastated. On X, they are sharing their reactions to this while also emphasizing the need for privacy in both Wong and Hader’s personal lives:

But while this is new, fans had been speculating about relationship troubles between the two since early last year, when Ali Wong didn’t walk the red carpet at the Golden Globes 2025 with Bill Hader, nor did she thank him in her acceptance speech after winning the Best Performance in Stand-up Comedy on Television Award for her Netflix special Single Lady.
Yet, at the time, a representative for Hader told PEOPLE that the couple was still going strong and that Hader had missed the event due to a health issue.
A Look at Ali Wong and Bill Hader’s Relationship Timeline
Ali Wong and Bill Hader have been linked since 2022, after the former split from her ex-husband, Justin Hakuta, after eight years of marriage in April, while the latter reportedly split from his girlfriend, Anna Kendrick, after over a year of dating. While Wong shares two daughters with her Hakuta, Hader is the father of three girls with ex-wife Maggie Carey.
In December 2022, Page Six reported that Hader and Wong dated for “at least two months” but are already over. A source said,
They’re no longer dating. They dated very briefly. They’re just super busy with things, but [the split] was certainly amicable. They’re certainly friends.
A few months later, on April 16, 2023, Hader mentioned his “girlfriend” in an interview with Collider, saying, “My girlfriend and I were just figuring out that I haven’t had a vacation in 10 years. I went with her to San Francisco, but that doesn’t really count. So, I’m going to have a vacation.”
The next day, Page Six reported that Hader and Wong were dating again. And it was confirmed just two days later, on April 19, when the duo were spotted holding hands and kissing while on a hike in Los Angeles on her 41st birthday (via Page Six).
In December that year, Wong officially filed for a divorce from Hakuta, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the cause of their split, per the court documents obtained by PEOPLE. The next month, Wong and Hader practically went public with their relationship as they attended the Golden Globes 2024 together.
At the event, Wong and Hader shared a sweet hug and kiss after she won a Best Female Actor – Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Motion Picture Golden Globe for her performance in Beef. In her acceptance speech, though, she gave a shoutout to her ex-husband, saying (via @GoldenGlobes on X),
I really need to thank the father of my children and my best friend, Justin, for all of your love and support. It’s because of you that I’m able to be a working mother.
A week later, at the Critics’ Choice Awards 2024, she even shared a kiss with her boyfriend after her big win before walking over to the stage (via @DailyMail on X). The next day, she once again kissed him before walking over to the stage after winning Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Beef at the Emmy Awards 2024.
Then, in October 2024, Wong’s comedy special, Single Lady, hit Netflix, where she revealed some information about how she got together with Hader. Apparently, he was the one who reached out to her via text when news of her divorce broke, saying that he had a huge crush on her and wanted her to be his girlfriend.
But at the time, Wong politely declined and hit the road for a tour of Europe. However, she soon found ever-larger bouquets of flowers in her hotel rooms, all of which were reportedly sent by Hader. And just like that, after working through her heartbreak following her split, she fell in love again with “the guy who sent the flowers.”
Months later, when Hader failed to accompany Wong to the 2025 Golden Globes, rumors erupted of a possible rift between the two. But then, in February, the couple made their official red-carpet debut at the Directors Guild Awards.
In April that year, Hader even sweet-talked about Wong on Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, sharing the sweet gesture she made amid the 2025 LA wildfires, which rendered his home unlivable.
It is a funny thing, Ali and I went today to just—literally, I had to shop for clothes,” Hader said, noting that his kids were concerned because he was “living in my pajamas. And it was very sweet. She was like, ‘Let’s go get you some jeans.’
Unfortunately enough, their union evidently couldn’t last for too long, considering these latest reports of the couple’s split. It remains to be seen, though, if this would be their final split or if the two would once again wind up coming back to each other.
