Martin Scorsese made a cameo in The Mandalorian and Grogu as Hugo, an Ardennian food cart vendor. Jon Favreau, who talked to Radio Times about the cameo, did not explain if the name was an homage to the film that Scorsese made, bearing the same name. What Favreau did dive into, however, was how the cameo came about, and how much Scorsese has impacted him personally.
Favreau also opened up about the other cinema legend who was also part of the film. Sigourney Weaver essayed the role of Colonel Ward, an authority figure in the New Republic who was handing out Din Djarin and Grogu their latest assignments. Her involvement in the project was also something that fans were excited about.

Jon Favreau revealed in a conversation with Radio Times how he ended up getting one of his creative heroes to be part of The Mandalorian and Grogu. He revealed:
“Now, it’s easier to get somebody to commit to being a part of something when you’re not going to be on set for four months [and] thankfully [former LucasFilm president] Kathy Kennedy had a relationship with him… a long-standing friendship.”
Kathleen Kennedy, according to Favreau, called Martin Scorsese, who agreed to the role almost immediately. The Iron Man director was not expecting the Taxi Driver director to agree to the role, and that too with the speed that he did. Nonetheless, he was thrilled about the entire experience.
However, Martin Scorsese was far from the only Hollywood legend who was on the set of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu. As revealed by trailers, Aliens alum Sigourney Weaver also had a part in the film, serving as one of the authority figures in the New Republic, handling Din and Grogu as they embarked on missions sanctioned by the new government.
Jon Favreau Was Excited To Have Sigourney Weaver On As Well
Favreau, whose brainchild The Mandalorian was, was thrilled to see big names like Scorsese and Weaver be a part of his project. Weaver’s reputation among science fiction fans was on full display as she fulfilled her role as Colonel Ward, which brought the kind of authority that her character demanded to the role. Favreau explained:
She hits the screen and all of a sudden her reputation is subconsciously brought to mind, and as you see her as a commanding officer of this base… she’s definitely an authority figure.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu has come in with a record box office opening low for the live-action theatrical franchise, which has fans concerned about what lies ahead for the IP. The show started out as one of the more beloved sections of the franchise, but has since started to cause controversy in the fanbase. It remains to be seen if the film manages to make up the money that it needs to in the days to come, or if the internet is going to find another Star Wars property to clown when they talk about the current state of franchise cinema.
