Curious about how DC’s Supergirl ending ties up Kara Zor-El’s intergalactic quest for vengeance and justice?
The finale delivers a morally complex confrontation, a surprising act of violence, and a heartfelt reunion that redefines Kara’s place on Earth. With Ruthye’s revenge halted, Krem’s fate sealed, and Krypto’s life hanging in the balance, the ending reshapes the DC Universe’s future.
Here is the Supergirl ending explained, covering Kara’s decisive final moments and what they mean for the DCU going forward.
What happened in Supergirl’s ending and who dies?
Supergirl’s ending delivers a morally complex conclusion that ultimately defines Kara Zor-El as a very different hero from Superman. After tracking down the Brigands to a planet with alternating green and yellow suns, Kara faces significant challenges. The green sun weakens her powers considerably, but the yellow sun eventually restores her full Kryptonian strength.
During the climactic battle, Ruthye escapes her cell and subsequently frees the captured bounty hunter Lobo. She then confronts Krem on the ship’s deck, but he quickly overpowers her and prepares to execute her. However, a newly recharged Kara arrives just in time, wearing her classic Supergirl outfit to intervene.
Krem fires specially designed Kryptonite darts at Kara to weaken her during the fight. Fortunately, Lobo swoops in and saves Kara by killing his own bounty target among the Brigands. Together, they defeat the remaining Brigands while Kara simultaneously rescues all the kidnapped brides from the wreckage.
Consequently, Ruthye gets her chance to finally kill Krem and avenge her murdered family. Nevertheless, Kara steps in and convinces her that cold-blooded revenge will never truly heal her heartbreak. She warns Ruthye that the lasting trauma of killing him will follow her for life.
After Ruthye reluctantly walks away from the confrontation, Kara picks up the sword herself. She then kills Krem by stabbing him, declaring the act was for her dog Krypto and Ruthye’s family. Meanwhile, Lobo watches the entire scene unfold from a distance and applauds before quietly departing.
Subsequently, Kara retrieves the antidote from Krem’s necklace and rushes back to save the poisoned Krypto. The cure works successfully, and Krypto makes a complete recovery from the deadly poison. Kara eventually returns to Earth, where her cousin Clark Kent waits inside her apartment for her arrival. She tells Superman she plans to stay on Earth permanently, firmly establishing her future within the DC Universe.
Importantly, no post-credits scene appears after the film’s conclusion.
The film hits cinemas across the United States on June 26, following its Brooklyn premiere on June 22.
