Severance‘s Adam Scott leads the Neon horror drama, Hokum, which is set to be released in the U.S. theaters on May 1, 2026. Scott plays Ohm Bauman, who is tortured by a witch who haunts his rented accommodation in a remote part of Ireland. With its unique Irish horror setting, the movie almost immediately appeals to all horror movie lovers. Scott plays a completely different character from his usual roles: far more serious than his Park & Rec role and much more complex than his AppleTV sci-fi show.

After its release on May 1, the movie is expected to complete a standard 30-45 day theatrical run before it is made available for digital release. Scott’s character, Ohm Bauman, travels to a remote part of Ireland with his parents’ ashes. He rents a hotel suite, which has ties to his late parents, and things start to go horribly wrong for him in this haunted place. The truth seeker in him sets out to investigate the horrors of the place, which opens up some old wounds. When Bauman is confronted with his past, the story delves into the territory of pure dread.
Hokum doesn’t appear to be your typical jump-scare horror. From the trailer, the movie seems to slowly build the atmosphere and raise the tension. The infusion of Irish mythology into the narrative just adds another layer to the psychological horror. The movie explores the theme of grief and unresolved pain, told in a folklore background.
