The Gears of War franchise is well-known for its narrative prowess and allows players to make critical decisions that can even decide some characters’ fate. This was the case at the end of Gears of War 5, which was so unexpected that players were unprepared for the gut-wrenching choice.
With the announcement of Gears of War: E-Day, players are once again excited to enjoy a new title in the series. However, those players who have played the 5th mainline title are still filled with emotional weight and can’t seem to mend the raw wounds left by that pivotal moment.

After the announcement of Gears of War: E-Day, players are eager to know more details about the game such as narrative, main characters, and even returning characters. However, most players are not ready to make a decision that holds the same weight as present in the previous titles.
The finale of Gears of War 5 saw players face a brutal choice that split the community in half as some thought picking JD was the correct choice and some thought it should be Del.
This decision was meaningful as it would lead to the death of the other. At this point, players have spent quite a lot of time with both JD and Del, so picking one was always difficult.

The decision to add such a heavy choice was a bold move (some players say lazy) by The Coalition. However, the studio failed to realize that the aftermath of this decision would split the community, and would still be vocal about the choice to this day.
Reddit User, bigboxbosser, recently played Gears of War 5 and was also shocked by the ending and asked the community their thoughts. This post once again reminded everyone about the choice, and they are still frustrated and somewhat angry.

It is known that E-Day will take place before the original Gears of War trilogy and will be a prequel. While players are excited that the new game will offer new storylines, characters, and gameplay mechanics, players are still sad that there is no way to fix the ending of the 5th title.
The Coalition is seemingly trying to go back to its roots and follow the original trilogy, especially the success of the 3rd one. These promises have made players hope and raised their expectations very high.
In the end, while players have to face the repercussions of their choices, The Coalition will have to work its magic and meet the promises it has made.
