Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi‘s Wuthering Heights is almost out, and the actress has just made some bold comments about what fans should expect from the adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic novel.

Talking about the raunchy, steaming scenes that will be found in the film, Robbie stated, “They never really kissed in the book, but we kiss a lot. We kiss everywhere.” Clearly, the film is quite different from what readers have witnessed on the pages before, at least in this one aspect.

She added (via The Sun),

And there’s so many times where he just picks me up and puts me in a tree, or picks me up with one hand. And I have to say, it is really nice, it makes you feel, ‘Oh I’m light as a feather, I’m a tiny little thing’

Robbie also stated that Wuthering Heights is a great pick for “Galentine’s Day,” where you could simply go and catch a show in your nearest theaters with your closest gal pals.

Why the Wuthering Heights Trailer Enraged Fans

The trailer for Wuthering Heights was released by Warner Bros. on November 13, 2025, and while it has garnered 25 million views so far, it did disappoint many fans who were looking for an adaptation that would be true to the source.

Fans of the classic novel took to the comments section to voice their anger at the trailer, with one writing, “At least they got the fog right,” and another claiming, “If you listen really closely, at the end you can hear Emily Bronte screaming from beyond the grave.“

Needless to say, the first impression did not impress. But what is it that enraged the fans so much? For starters, the main characters’ appearances. The trailer received backlash over Elordi playing Heathcliff, as some would argue that the character was described as a “dark-skinned gipsy” in the book.

Director Defends Her Wuthering Heights Adaptation

Emerald Fennell opened up about her primal, s*xual adaptation of Brontë’s novel while at the Brontë Women’s Writing festival back in September 2025. She recalled reading the book when she was just 14 years old, and becoming absolutely obsessed with it.

She said (via The Guardian),

I’ve been obsessed. I’ve been driven mad by this book. I know that if somebody else made it, I’d be furious. It’s very personal material for everyone. It’s very illicit. The way we relate to the characters is very private.

Talking about her s*x-charged retelling of Catherine and Heathcliff’s story, Fennell added,

[It is] an act of extreme masochism to try and make a film of something that means this much to you. There’s an enormous amount of sado-masochism in this book. There’s a reason people were deeply shocked by it.

She has called it a “masochistic exercise,” explaining, “because I love it so much, and it can’t love me back, and I have to live with that.”
