A full-length trailer for Daisy Ridley’s We Bury The Dead has been released, offering viewers a glimpse at the new zombie feature from genre director Zak Hilditch. Having premiered to promising reviews at SXSW earlier this year, the movie follows Ridley’s Ava, a grieving woman, who joins a body retrieval unit to find her husband in the wastelands of Tasmania.
Early reviews have lauded the movie for its scale and atmosphere, apparent from the trailer, which also promises some genuine scares. But what sets this apart in an oversaturated genre is Hilditch’s approach to the undead, whose importance in the narrative extends beyond that of a backdrop. In an interview with Screen Rant, he explained:
There was an original script of this that didn’t even have zombies. How can you make a zombie movie that can cut through all the other zombie movies?’ It was only when they started infiltrating the world of the film from a script level that everything started to sing a little better.
Not only does this element give the movie an edge over more forgettable entries in the genre, but if it’s received well, it could undercut 28 Years Later: Bone Temple‘s overall projections.
We Bury The Dead Threatens 28 Years Later: Bone Temple Box-Office
The first month of 2026 is shaping up to be a feast for fans of the genre, as both We Bury The Dead and 28 Years: Bone Temple will release weeks apart. However, given that both of them appeal to a similar demographic, a sizeable portion may only end up choosing one of them.
While Bone Temple‘s brand recognition alone gives it a major advantage, and it’ll likely end up grossing more than an original movie domestically, it’s important to note that We Bury the Dead will open first to no competition.

If the commercial reception upon release matches its critical acclaim, especially when it comes to its Cinemascore, the movie could benefit from better legs at the box office. Consequently, the movie’s theatrical run could undercut Bone Temple‘s opening weekend.
Then again, it’s too early to predict how the two will perform at the box office, and hopefully, both will enjoy great legs during their theatrical run.
