Alan Ritchson‘s new sci-fi action movie War Machine has made a strong debut on Netflix, earning 39.3 million views in its first three days. The film continues to perform well on the platform, topping Netflix’s global Top 10 and becoming the most-watched title during the week of March 2–8.
The movie also holds the No. 1 spot across 93 countries on Netflix’s global Top 10 movies list, followed by Jurassic World Rebirth in second place and KPop Demon Hunters in third.
Directed by Patrick Hughes and starring Ritchson in the lead role, War Machine follows a group of elite soldiers whose training exercise turns into a fight for survival against an unimaginable threat.
Alan Ritchson Hints at Exciting War Machine Sequel on Netflix
Alan Ritchson’s War Machine has been receiving a strong reception on Netflix, and the actor, who leads the film as Staff Sergeant 81, has hinted at the potential future of the sci-fi action movie.
In a March 2026 interview with ScreenRant, Ritchson and director Patrick Hughes revealed they had already considered continuing the story beyond the film’s self-contained narrative, with more adventures for 81.
“Tons. Let me say it for him, tons,” Ritchson shared, adding, “War Machines is going to be sick. The whole thing, we got a whole thing.” Patrick Hughes also shared that though he wrote War Machine as a standalone story, he already has ideas and a rough plan for where the story could go if a sequel happens.
No, no. When I sat down and wrote War Machine, I was like, this is a fully formed standalone story, and heaven forbid—touch wood—if I ever got the opportunity to take it further, I know exactly where it’s going, and I’ve sketched it out.
He added that he loves the character of 81 and the world surrounding him, and if the opportunity arises, he is ready to move forward with a sequel. However, a sequel to War Machine has not yet been confirmed.
War Machine Pushed Alan Ritchson to the Limit
Reflecting on his experience filming the sci-fi action movie War Machine, Alan Ritchson described it as one of the most physically demanding projects of his career.

“I’m not going to lie, this was the most I’ve ever been pushed physically,” he told The Hollywood Reporter, admitting that the intense production often made him question whether he could make it through the shoot.
But there were many times when I said, “I don’t know if I’ll be able to get across the finish line.” It’s weird how much that mirrors the journey that 81 takes, but it was like the cumulative effect of everything.
According to the actor, the relentless pace of filming took a serious toll on his body, especially when they “started shooting the Ranger training obstacle course.” Director Patrick Hughes also noted that the film was difficult to shoot.
“We shot in real-world environments in the wilderness,” he said, explaining that the crew had to transport equipment and teams by helicopter, and Ritchson even performed scenes crossing dangerous Grade 5 rapids in New Zealand, making the shoot extremely demanding.
