The US Justice Department has asked the judge overseeing Donald Trump’s election fraud case to step in after the former president appeared to threaten revenge against anyone who “goes after him”.
Prosecutors asked US District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan to issue a “protective order” in the case brought by special counsel Jack Smith.
It came after Mr Trump wrote on Truth Social, using all caps: “If you go after me, I’m coming after you!”
The prosecution argued that the post suggested Mr Trump might intimidate witnesses by improperly disclosing confidential evidence received from the government.
On Thursday, Mr Trump pleaded not guilty in Washington to four charges, including conspiracy to defraud the United States.
