Moreover, the screenings will be available at theaters nationwide across the United States. It will then expand globally with screenings in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and Germany. Additionally, premium large format 4DX screenings will be available in the United States and the United Kingdom.

In addition to the 4K release, attendees are invited to stay through the end credits for a brand-new post-credits cinematic chapter created exclusively for this release.

Why The Transformers: The Movie remains one of the franchise’s most controversial entries

The Transformers: The Movie was released on August 8, 1986, and will be celebrating its 40th anniversary. This movie is considered one of the most controversial in the franchise because it killed off the fan-favorite Optimus Prime.

The Autobot leader died earlier in the movie during a gruesome battle with the Decepticon Megatron. Moreover, the movie’s storyline also eliminated other beloved characters such as Prowl, Ratchet, Brawn, and Ironhide.

What sparked the controversy was the toy-store giant Hasbro’s strategic move to eliminate these characters to get fans to buy its new lineup. However, enthusiasts of the Autobots and the franchise were left traumatized by this move.

40 years later, the toy producers and franchise creators have introduced a year-long ‘The Apology Tour’ in response to killing off Optimus Prime. The 4K theatrical release is part of this tour.

The 1986 movie synopsis reads, “The Autobots must stop a colossal planet-consuming robot who goes after the Autobot Matrix of Leadership. At the same time, they must defend themselves against an all-out attack from the Decepticons.”
