AMC has a surprise Toy Story 30th anniversary light-up cup that has sneaked in as part of the merch for the movie’s re-release in theaters. Much of the attention has been paid to the special black and blue popcorn bucket and character topper cup, which is no surprise since both of these items have an adorable pair of Woody and Buzz Lightyear figurines on their lids. Nearly every theater chain, including AMC, Regal, Cinemark, and Marcus, are offering them for sale, but only AMC has shown off the light-up cups. Here’s what we know so far about the price and release date for this possibly exclusive Toy Story collectible.
How much is the AMC Toy Story 30th Anniversary light-up cup?
The Toy Story 30th Anniversary light-up cup at AMC is expected to cost around $20 and will be released on September 12, which is when the Toy Story theatrical re-release will arrive in the US.
The official price for this cup hasn’t been revealed yet (we’ll update this article if or when that happens), but it should be in the same ballpark as the character topper cup that is already being sold at Marcus Theatres for $18.99.
From the picture posted by AMC, the light-up cup is mainly transparent except for the Toy Story 30th Anniversary logo and the silhouettes of several characters around the body. The base of the cup looks dark bluish black when turned off but turns to a bright blue when it turns on, illuminating some of the silhouettes in the glow. It’s unclear what kind of battery this base uses or whether it can be easily replaced.
Like the character topper cup, the light-up cup comes with a free large drink at AMC. There’s no info on whether it comes with free refills too on the same day as the purchase, but we can only hope this is the case. At the time of writing, this cup is not available on the AMC storefront, so it looks like it’s only available in theaters for now.
