We all know that our favorite mischief-loving, green-caped, glorious purpose guy is returning in Avengers: Doomsday. But what if we told you that Tom Hiddleston’s Loki isn’t just back, he is literally returning to save the entire Marvel multiverse, alongside the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and even the Avengers? 

With Avengers: Doomsday on the horizon and Marvel Studios cooking up multiverse chaos, the internet has gone full detective mode with a theory so juicy, it might just blow your Variant-loving mind. If you thought Loki Season 2 was a multiversal ride, buckle up, because this theory is bringing the big guns and the big baddies.

MCU theory about Loki bringing the X-Men and Fantastic Four  

Listen up, a growing theory online suggests that Avengers: Doomsday might be borrowing ideas from a particularly new Marvel comic. Well, we all know that MCU has been inclined to adapt somewhat recent comic book plots, so it’s not shocking that the film will follow a comic timeline, but what’s surprising is that the ideas are coming from the 2021 Avengers Forever comic run.

In that comic, the plot didn’t just give us another “Avengers, assemble!” moment—it made Loki the guy calling the shots. Yup, the God of Mischief turned into the God of Stories (like we witnessed in MCU’s Loki Season 2 finale), started building his own army of heroes across the multiverse to fight the ultimate evil duo—Doctor Doom and Mephisto. And now, it seems that the MCU might be adapting this storyline. 

In Avengers Forever, a variant of Loki realizes the multiverse is falling apart, and instead of being his usual chaotic self, he steps up and becomes a protector of reality. He forms a team, which includes different versions of heroes—from the Avengers to the Fantastic Four and even the X-Men. So now that MCU’s Avengers: Doomsday is set to feature all the heroes and teams across the multiverse, it feels like they’ll adapt the Avengers Forever storyline.

Well, this theory (although a rumor), seems to have some weightage, since we know that Doctor Doom is going to be a bigger-than-Thanos level threat in Avengers: Doomsday. So there’s a possibility that his appearance might cause chaos and a few deaths, leading Loki to step up—since he’s the only one who knows what’s coming. So perhaps, with the power to travel through timelines, Loki will gather the squad of mutants, cosmic scientists, and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes on Earth-616.  

Avengers: Doomsday character line-up matches the internet theory

So far, Marvel has kept most of Avengers: Doomsday under wraps, but we do know about the ensemble cast. With The Fantastic Four movie releasing ahead of Doomsday, we know that Pedro Pascal‘s team will appear in the upcoming Avengers movie. Additionally, a few X-Men characters have also popped up on the official cast list shared on IMDb—thanks to Deadpool & Wolverine for connecting the X-Men with the MCU timeline.

Guess what? Even a few Thunderbolts* characters are in the cast line-up for Avengers: Doomsday. So, it genuinely sounds like Marvel is building toward a mega team-up featuring legacy characters and new arrivals. Meanwhile, let’s not forget the multiverse is a mess after Loki Season 2, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. So, with the timelines breaking, it will take someone who understands the multiverse, to pull together a team from every corner of existence.

And who better than Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki? Now this means that Charles Xavier, Reed Richards, and yes, even a new Tony Stark variant might be on the same battlefield. Now this seems to give weightage to another theory suggesting that Chris Evans might return as Captain Hydra. Considering how he’s a variant in the multiverse, perhaps Loki will bring him to Earth-616 as well.

Now, if Avengers: Doomsday really follows the Avengers Forever blueprint, then Marvel isn’t just building a superhero movie—it’s building a multiversal crossover event to end all crossover events. This would explain the large, diverse character roster rumored to appear. As of now, due to a lack of confirmation, we won’t raise your hopes higher than this, but just keep in mind that anything is possible.
