Tobey Maguire is not part of the announced Avengers: Doomsday cast, and neither is he confirmed for Avengers: Secret Wars. However, it is a widespread rumor on fan pages and social media fan accounts that he is one of the superheroes leading the fight against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
With Downey Jr.’s return to the universe, it was clear that Marvel Studios is attempting to cash in on their older, fan-favorite superheroes. It wasn’t just Maguire whose name was thrown around. Fans also speculated that Hugh Jackman could return as Wolverine in the upcoming Avengers movies.
These two stars returned to their former roles as Spider-Man and Wolverine in two previous Marvel movies. Maguire’s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home resulted in the film becoming one of the highest-grossing movies ever, with $1.9 billion in box office collection. Jackman’s Deadpool & Wolverine earned $1.338 billion, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie.
It is not far-fetched to assume that Marvel might try to bring them back for their Multiverse Saga finale movies, given these billion-dollar numbers. Interestingly, the fan rumors were supported by a couple of insiders, who claimed that Maguire is very much part of Doomsday and probably Secret Wars.

Fans initially guessed that Tobey Maguire would play a major role in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. However, the updates coming from the movie suggest that neither Maguire nor Andrew Garfield would return alongside Holland.
While Tobey Maguire’s return to Spider-Man 4 hangs in the balance, insider Daniel Richtman recently shared that he would return in Avengers: Doomsday. Since the story is continuing in Avengers: Secret Wars, he is also likely to appear in that film as well. It is a huge update for fans who were expecting the Raimiverse Spidey to return since No Way Home in 2021.

The rumor of Maguire’s role in Secret Wars appeared back in 2023 when Marvel still planned on making The Kang Dynasty movie. It was rumored that Maguire and Hugh Jackman’s characters would lead TVA’s multiversal army against Kang.

Interestingly, the same insider earlier reported that Tom Holland won’t be joining the Doomsday cast (via SuperHeroHype). Fans believed this could be true, given that he was erased from everyone’s memories at the end of No Way Home. There exist conflicting reports on his appearance in the Multiverse Saga movie.
Another tweet from @Culture3ase claimed that all three Spider-Man actors are reuniting in Avengers: Secret Wars. The report said:

The ‘Tobey Maguire in Doomsday’ rumor was further fueled by a fan sighting from September 2025. X user, @Curtis1192, posted a photo alongside Maguire, claiming that he ran into the actor in London. Since the shooting of Doomsday was progressing in the city, many fans speculated that he might be a part of the movie.
Not All Fans Love Tobey Maguire in Avengers: Secret Wars

Many fans welcomed the possibility of Tobey Maguire’s appearance in Avengers: Secret Wars. However, there were fans who weren’t excited about the news. A possible storyline for Doomsday could be that the Earth’s mightiest heroes may face a significant defeat at the hands of the villain, Doctor Doom.
If Maguire’s Spider-Man appears in Secret Wars, he might lead a multiversal team against Doom to help Earth-616. While the idea is exciting, it would be a disservice to the fans and current actors of the MCU to rely on the nostalgic heroes from the 2000s for the Multiverse Saga finale.
For one, the actor is well into his 50s and bid farewell to the character in his prime, returning only for an extended cameo in the 2021 movie. And second, it is highly unlikely that Marvel will place all their bets on Spider-Man to carry forward their multiversal storyline. Marvel’s rights to the character is based on a vulnerable deal with Sony.
