Tijani Babangida: A Football Legend’s Heartbreak www.playplay.ng

Spread the love

Tijani Babangida, a name synonymous with Nigerian football, recently experienced a devastating personal tragedy that has shaken the nation. The former Super Eagles star was involved in a horrific car accident that claimed the lives of his only son and younger brother, leaving him and his wife with severe injuries.

The accident, which occurred on May 9th, 2024, on the Kaduna-Zaria Road, irrevocably altered the course of Babangida’s life. His one-year-old son, Fadil, and his younger brother, Ibrahim, a fellow footballer, succumbed to their injuries. Babangida himself sustained serious injuries to his legs and knees, while his wife suffered severe facial injuries and memory loss.

The news of this tragedy sent shockwaves through the Nigerian football community and beyond. Babangida, a beloved figure known for his electrifying pace and skill on the field, had endeared himself to fans across the globe during his illustrious career. His playing days saw him represent Nigeria at the highest level, including the 1994, 1998, and 2002 FIFA World Cups.

In the aftermath of the accident, Babangida and his wife have been receiving medical treatment in the Netherlands. The emotional and physical toll of the ordeal has been immense, with Babangida grappling with the loss of his son and brother while his wife continues to fight for her recovery.

The Nigerian football community and fans worldwide have rallied behind Babangida and his family, offering their support and prayers. 1 The incident serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing loved ones

“Tijani Babangida who played for this country and represented the Super Eagles for over a decade had an accident wherein he lost his only son with his young wife and his brother. He almost lost his legs; his wife is still battling for her life.
What did the NFF or Ministry of Sports do to help him? .
Man had to pick up his Dutch passport and flee to the Netherlands where his former teams have now received him and started a fundraiser of €170,000 to help with his recovery.
They will tell you to be loyal to Nigeria, they’ll say don’t demarket Nigeria, they’ll force you to sing the National Anthem – but what has Nigeria actually done for you? Why should you pay allegiance to a country that takes and takes from you without anything in return but frustration and anguish?
If people who have made Nigeria as a nation proud on the global stage are treated like rubbish, imagine you, a nobody – what do you think your fate will be?
If you’re wondering why there’s a japa wave and why people are quitting good paying jobs & selling off property to go and work menial jobs abroad, this is it.
Nigeria doesn’t guarantee that your dedication and hardwork will protect your future. Retirees have to pray & fast to get their pension – money that they saved over the 35 years they worked for the government.
Tragic.”
