While Marvel may not have officially announced Thunderbolts* 2 yet, rumors about who may appear are already swirling. Now, a new rumor suggests that a popular Hulk character, largely forgotten in the MCU, may return in the potential sequel.
In a recent Patreon/Discord Q&A session, Marvel insider Alex Perez claimed that Marvel may bring back Abomination, a notable enemy of the Hulk. Sharing his thoughts on a potential Thunderbolts* 2, the scooper said that Abomination could be among the MCU characters that may make an appearance.
Created by Stan Lee and artist Gil Kane, Abomination possesses similar powers to the Hulk. Like Banner, he was also exposed to Gamma rays. The character first appears in Marvel Comics’ Tales to Astonish #90 (1967).
“But a while back, a couple of the ideas I heard involved repurposing Taskmaster’s tech to make a new Taskmaster, bringing Abomination and Melissa Gold into the fold, and Bullseye being a neat addition too, but again, these are just ideas being thrown around,” Perez said (via Cosmic Circus).
However, Marvel has yet to make an official announcement regarding the production of Thunderbolts* 2. So, Abomination’s future appearance in the MCU also remains uncertain.
Where did we last see Abomination in the MCU before a potential Thunderbolts* 2?
The Emil Blonsky incarnation of the Abomination made his first appearance in the MCU in The Incredible Hulk (2008), which starred Edward Norton as Bruce Banner. Tim Roth portrayed Abomination in the film, and also provided the voice and motion capture for the character.
Blonsky has made sporadic appearances in the MCU since then. He appears in Marvel One-Shots’ The Consultant via archive footage. Roth also provided uncredited vocals for Blonsky in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The character was also briefly present in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Additionally, Marvel Zombies features a zombified version of Abomination.
