This Jackie Chan vs Jet Li Fight Looks Legendary Even If It’s Fanmade

Jet Li is frequently billed alongside Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee as one of the most iconic kung fu stars, who pushed the art form to new heights. Reasonably, fans have always entertained the prospect of how their fighting styles would’ve collided in their primes, particularly Li’s more traditional, precision-driven Wushu against Chan’s more acrobatic, improvisational approach.

Taking to X, one fan shared an AI-generated fight between the two using Seedance 2.0, offering a glimpse at what a full-fledged battle between them might have looked like.

Finally, Jackie Chan vs Jet Li — this is everyone’s dream. Thanks AI.#Seedance2 Seedance 2.0 long video testing pic.twitter.com/UrBm3f6Eod— 小娜做AI (@geesehowardt7) February 11, 2026

While some have found the video impressive, to enjoy an authentic face-off between the two legends, one needs to look back just over two decades.

Jackie Chan and Jet Li Faced Off in the Forbidden Kingdom

2008’s Forbidden Kingdom was a historic moment for kung fu fans, as it was the first onscreen pairing between icons Jet Li and Jackie Chan. While the movie itself didn’t live up to the enormous hype and drew criticism for not offering anything fresh in the realm of adventure movies, it did feature the only onscreen fight sequence between Li and Chan.

Amid the movie’s mixed reception, its biggest highlight was the six-minute showdown between Li’s Silent Monk and Chan’s Lu Yan. It isn’t exactly a gritty battle to the death, as the encounter gradually shifts from competitive to playful. The fusion of their contrasting styles creates a really entertaining experience, serving as a homage to both of their legacies.

Even though the fight primarily exists because of fan service, as fans have been imploring for the duo’s onscreen face-off for decades, the movie doesn’t disappoint on that note despite dropping the ball on other fronts.

Jet Li Weighs in on the Misconceptions Surrounding Kung Fu

While discussing the term kung fu, the five-time Wushu winner clarified that it isn’t confined solely to martial arts, noting that it simply refers to “somebody spending a lot of time doing one thing”.

He cited Bruce Lee’s rise as one of the major reasons the word became synonymous with martial arts, especially among Western audiences. And the emergence of later martial artists-turned-movie stars, including Jet Li and Jackie Chan, only reinforced that association (via Cinema Express).

In the 1970s, Bruce Lee made action films, and a lot of people said, ‘That’s Chinese kung fu. So, everybody around the world think that kung fu equals to wushu and martial arts. Something like that.

Given their stature in showbiz, it’s easy to see why fans are using Generative AI to pit their fight styles against each other. It’s a shame we only got to see Li and Chan share the screen in just one movie.

The Forbidden Kingdom is currently available to rent on Apple TV (USA).
