Two MCU stars have joined the cast of Liminal, a new sci-fi movie from Louis Leterrier.

Leterrier is known for directing the 2008 MCU movie The Incredible Hulk. Before that, he made 2002’s The Transporter and 2005’s Transporter with Jason Statham, while he also directed 2005’s Unleashed. Following The Incredible Hulk, Leterrier went on to make 2010’s Clash of the Titans, 2013’s Now You See Me, 2016’s Grimsby, 2022’s The Takedown, and 2023’s Fast X.

Who has joined the cast of Liminal?

Per Deadline, it has now been announced that The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Vanessa Kirby and Wonder Man’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will star in Liminal.

The movie is based on an AWA Studios graphic novel, titled Telepaths, by J. Michael Straczynski, Steve Epting, and Brian Reber.

A description of the graphic novel reads, “An electromagnetic disturbance results in the sudden awakening of telepathic powers in a tenth of the Earth’s population. In the moments after the world comes to grip with this development, newly-telepathic Boston police find themselves sent against a wrongly convicted prisoner who becomes a hero and leader of other telepaths trying to escape a world in which their powers will make them targets. Both are heroes of their own story, and the future may depend on whether or not trust can be found between them.”

Liminal, which is being released through Apple Studios, is written by Justin Rhodes. Zach Studin produces for AWA Studios alongside Kevin Walsh for The Walsh Company, while Straczynski, Epting, Reber, and Ray Angelic serve as executive producers.

In addition to Fantastic Four, Kirby is known for starring in The Crown show and for playing Alanna Mitsopolis / White Widow in the Mission: Impossible movies. She’s also appeared in movies such as 2015’s Jupiter Ascending, 2016’s Me Before You, 2019’s Hobbs & Shaw, 2020’s Pieces of a Woman, 2023’s Napoleon, 2024’s Eden, and more.

Abdul-Mateen II, meanwhile, played Cal Abar/Doctor Manhattan in the Watchmen miniseries, while he’s also been in movies such as 2018’s Aquaman, 2019’s Us, 2020’s The Trial of the Chicago 7, 2021’s Candyman, 2021’s The Matrix Resurrections, 2022’s Ambulance, and 2023’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. He’ll soon be seen in The Adventures of Cliff Booth and the Man on Fire TV show, both of which are releasing this year on Netflix, and it’s also been announced that Wonder Man has been renewed for a second season.

A release date for Liminal has not yet been announced.
