Vought has unveiled an in-universe tribute for The Boys‘ Firecracker, and in classic Vought fashion, the post reeks of propaganda as it pits the blame for her death on Starlight. The YouTube video description describes the deceased ally of Homelander as the defender of “honest, common sense straight talk”, claiming that Starlight murdered her in cold blood to stop people from knowing the truth.
But as we know, it was Homelander who ended up murdering her in episode 5 of the show, despite her utmost devotion to him, and according to the showrunner, there’s a very unsettling reason behind why Homelander murdered her.
Why Did Homelander Kill Firecracker in Cold-Blood?
In an attempt to earn Homelander’s trust and maintain her standing in the Seven, Firecracker ends up betraying her old congregation and Reverend Greg Dupree, who was essentially a father figure to her. This act of utmost loyalty, however, doesn’t work in her favor, as after questioning her dedication to him after discovering her s-xual history with Soldier Boy, Homelander brutally kills her.
Elaborating on it, Eric Kripke told THR that everyone in Homelander’s inner circle is ultimately disposable to him, even if they are blindly dedicated to him.
[When we wrote the episode], her sort of banishment hadn’t happened yet. But we were like: ‘But it’s only a matter of time before it does.’ So we were like: Let’s write that. Because, I mean, Firecracker had it coming.There are also clear parallels to the current POTUS, and Eric Kripke hasn’t shied away from drawing those connections in the wake of the fallout between Marjorie Taylor Greene and Donald Trump.
Firecracker’s Real World Allegory in The Boys Explained

Eric Kripke has been vocal about positioning Firecracker as an allegory for Trump loyalists, arguing that everyone within that orbit is ultimately disposable, much like in Homelander’s case.
Kripke stressed that Homelander demands absolute loyalty from those around him, forcing them to compromise their values before inevitably casting them aside. The Boys season 5, in particular, isn’t subtle about those parallels, as despite its sci-fi premise, the series increasingly feels less like satire and more like a reflection of the current political climate.
Because for us, it’s like, everyone who’s in his orbit — or everybody who is in a certain public figure’s orbit — they give up every single conviction they’ve ever had, and then he destroys their careers. They end up just getting thrown out into the world. There’s this breed of people espousing Trump’s message who are more hardcore than him — the Marjorie Taylor Greens of the world.
With three episodes still to go, it’ll be interesting to see how Kripke concludes the final season, especially given the challenge of crafting a satirical world that has seemingly been outpaced by reality at every turn.
