Take It Back Movement Gives UBA Bank 24-Hour Ultimatum To Unfreeze Account, Alleges SSS Interference Over Planned Protest

The Take It Back Movement, a prominent activist group in Nigeria, has accused the United Bank for Africa (UBA) of freezing their account on the instructions of the Department of State Services (DSS). The movement alleges that this action is in response to their involvement in the forthcoming nationwide protests.
In a statement released on their official social media platforms, the Take It Back Movement demanded that UBA Bank unfreeze their account within the next 24 hours, threatening legal action against what they termed a “PRO-HARDSHIP Bank” if their demands are not met.
The group’s statement read, “BREAKING!!! @ubagroup UBA Bank has frozen the account of the Take it Back Movement on the instructions of the lawless DSS over our involvement in the forthcoming Nationwide protest. The account must be unfrozen immediately within the next 24hours, or we take legal action against the PRO-HARDSHIP Bank.”
This development has sparked controversy and raised concerns about the alleged interference of the DSS in the financial affairs of activist groups. The Take It Back Movement has been vocal in their criticism of the current government’s policies and has been at the forefront of organizing nationwide protests to address various issues affecting the country.
UBA Bank and the DSS have not yet released an official statement regarding the allegations made by the Take It Back Movement. The situation is likely to attract significant attention from civil society organizations, human rights advocates, and the general public in the coming days.
As the 24-hour ultimatum issued by the Take It Back Movement approaches, it remains to be seen how UBA Bank and the DSS will respond to the demands and the potential legal action that may follow.

Earlier on Friday that organisers of the planned nationwide #DaysOfRage and #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest had written the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, requesting the release of Eagle Square between August 1 and 10, 2024, for the peaceful demonstration.
In a letter signed by Damilare Adenola, Director of Mobilisation for TIB Movement in Abuja, the protesters demanded unrestricted access to the venue 24/7 throughout the duration of the protest, and possibly even after it concludes.
The letter read in part, “I write you as the Director of Mobilization, Take it Back Movement (TIB) to your office to grant us access to the Eagles Square between August 1st and 10th, 2024, for our #DaysOfRage, protest.
“This request entails using this national asset-day and night-for the duration of the historic protest.
“Also, note that the protest may be prolonged beyond ten days as we embark on the protracted crisis occasioned by the ruling party.
“Further, your office must also ensure the provision of a 24-hour power supply, toilet facilities, water, and security for the convenience of Nigerian citizens who will be camped out at Eagle Square.”
