The original Star Wars trilogy has a new way for fans to relive the story ahead of its 50th anniversary. Lucasfilm announced several releases in celebration of the franchise’s 50th anniversary at the San Diego Comic-Con. They further revealed that George Lucas‘s original trilogy will be available as unabridged audiobooks.
The audiobooks will be narrated by Marc Thompson. The American voice actor is known for his roles as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Daria, Winx Club, and Astonishing X-Men. The editions will be available on popular audiobook platforms from February 2, 2027.
The trilogy includes the movies Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, and Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.
Star Wars is getting a theatrical rerelease next year
Additionally, the 50th anniversary will let fans experience the franchise with a theatrical release as well.
A newly restored version of the classic 1977-released Star Wars: A New Hope will play in theaters on February 19, 2027, for a limited time everywhere. According to the official website, ticket sales for the theatrical release will be available soon. Further updates are awaited on the same since then.
The Star Wars movie was helmed and written by Lucas. It stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Cushing, Alec Guinness, Anthony Daniels, and Kenny Baker.
The story follows Luke Skywalker as he teams up with a Jedi master, a smuggler, and droids to rescue Princess Leia and help the Rebel Alliance destroy the Galactic Empire’s planet-destroying weapon, the Death Star.
Star Wars: A New Hope earned $775.4 million worldwide on a $11 million budget, kicking off the successful movies that followed in Hollywood history. Since then, many movies and series have been released within the franchise.
Meanwhile, the upcoming movie in the franchise, Star Wars: Starfighter, will be released on May 28, 2027.
