While The Punisher is one of Marvel‘s popular characters today, he started out as an antagonist of Spider-Man. The two vigilantes have clashed several times since, and are poised to face each other in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day. However, before these two tangle in the MCU, they will fight once more in a new Marvel Comics miniseries.
Marvel announced the Punisher vs. Spider-Man as one of several comics tying into the upcoming movie. It will be written by legendary writer and Punisher: Year One author Dan Abnett. The interior art will be provided by artist Matteo Della Fonte, most recently seen on Nova: Centurion.
Punisher vs. Spider-Man a retro tale of two vigilantes
The miniseries will be set shortly after Peter Parker and Frank Castle first fought in 1974’s Amazing Spider-Man #129. The story will find an old ally from Punisher‘s past seeking him out for help. Despite his better judgement, Spidey will become involved. However, he agrees to put his desire to bring Frank to justice on-hold for the greater good. This just delays the inevitable, as their conflicting ideas of crime-fighting will eventually lead to conflict.

“I’m very happy to be writing these two characters in a head-to-head together,” Abnett noted. “The series is a whole lot of fun and full of big action, and some genuine surprises as they learn stuff about each other for the first time. That’s the real joy of going back to this pivotal early point in continuity. There’s a freshness in their encounters and interactions that I think readers are really going to get a kick out of.”
Two covers and four unlettered pages from the first issue may be viewed below.
