Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ highly anticipated superhero movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day has received a new update about Mark Ruffalo‘s return as the Hulk. The Tom Holland-led film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 31, 2026.
What’s the latest Spider-Man 4 update?
Following reports about Bruce Banner transforming into the Grey Hulk in Spider-Man 4, insider Daniel Richtman shared some insight as to why the studio isn’t showing the character’s rumored transformation yet. He claimed that the film’s marketing will most likely keep the Hulk’s regular green-colored design during promotion in order to avoid spoilers.
Since people asked me about the Hulk in Brand New Day – from what my source has seen he was definitely grey. So there could be a few reasons why he’s green in the marketing:The marketing is misleading to avoid spoilers, wouldn’t be the first time.He starts off green and then…— Daniel Richtman (@DanielRPK) February 14, 2026
Despite initially denying his involvement, previous set photos ultimately confirmed that Ruffalo is indeed reprising his iconic role as Bruce Banner/Hulk in Brand New Day. He was last seen introducing his son Skaar at the end of the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. One of the popular rumors about Hulk’s potential role in Spider-Man 4 suggested that the hero might transform into the Savage Hulk, best known as the character’s aggressive and deadly alter-ego.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The movie will also feature the return of Emmy winner Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned. Joining them are Sadie Sink (Stranger Things), Jon Bernthal (Daredevil: Born Again) as Frank Castle/Punisher, Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear) as Cathy, Michael Mando (Better Call Saul) as Mac Gargan/Scorpion, Marvin Jones III (Black Lightning) as Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone, and Tramell Tillman (Severance).
The speculation about Sink’s mysterious character continues to circulate online, with some fans convinced that she may have been cast as the MCU’s Jean Grey, following the recent revelation that she’ll also appear in Avengers: Secret Wars. The upcoming movie is produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Rachel O’Connor, Avi Arad, and Louis D’Esposito.
