Nigerian gospel singer Sinach has spoken out against the N5 billion copyright infringement lawsuit filed by music producer Maye.
Maye, whose real name is Michael Oluwole, is claiming co-ownership of Sinach’s hit song Way Maker and demanding N5 billion in damages.
According to Sinach, Maye’s role in the song was limited to mixing, for which he was paid N150,000 ($300) years ago. Sinach emphasized that Maye’s contribution does not entitle him to co-ownership of the song.
The copyright drama has sparked a heated debate on social media, with many fans supporting Sinach. Meanwhile, Way Maker, released in 2016, has become a global phenomenon, translated into several languages and impacting countless lives.
The Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned the case until January 29 and 30, 2025. As the lawsuit unfolds, fans of Sinach remain steadfast in their support for the gospel music star.
