Shang-Chi 2 has received a disappointing update that may not be the news MCU fans want to hear. There’s still hope that the sequel will eventually happen, but it doesn’t seem like anything will be happening with it in the near future.
Marvel Studios released Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in 2021. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Awkwafina as Katy, Meng’er Zhang as Xu Xialing, Fala Chen as Ying Li, Benedict Wong as Wong, Michelle Yeoh as Ying Nan, Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery, and more.
There have been reports that Marvel plans to make a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, though the exact status of that project remains unclear at this time. Liu has said that the project is in development, but it does not have a release date at this time.
What is the Shang-Chi 2 update?
Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus was recently asked if there were any updates that could be shared about Shang-Chi 2.
Perez said, “Unfortunately, no. That was sort of brought to a pause, although I heard a rumor involving Wonder Man season 2, but we’ll see how that plays out, if it even does.”
That’s not exactly reassuring to fans of the MCU character, as it sounds like the sequel could potentially never come to fruition. Having said that, this should only be treated as a rumor at this time, as there’s been no official Shang-Chi 2 news from Marvel at this time. All that’s known at this time is that Liu’s Shang-Chi will be appearing in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Having said that, the Wonder Man Season 2 rumor could also be something we hear more about in the future, as Cretton was one of the co-creators on that show and a second season is definitely in the works. Additionally, Kingsley appears in both Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Wonder Man, so there could be a way to tie the two titles together via Trevor Slattery.
