Sergeant America – A Brave new World Wthout Super Soldier Serum

Review Title: “A Time Where Movies Look Like Some Season One of a Show and Some Show’s Episodes Look Like Their Trailer 🙂”
Rating: 5/10
By: www.skits.ng

Ah yes, Captain America: Brave New World (2025) — or should we say Sergeant America: Mildly Troubled Suburb? Because this wasn’t exactly the heroic comeback we expected, but more like a sponsored ad for a future Disney+ series that may or may not get canceled after one season.

Let’s start with the good: Anthony Mackie tries his best. He flaps around with that budget-friendly wingsuit, delivers motivational one-liners, and squints like he’s reading the script off a teleprompter placed slightly too far away. But the poor guy is clearly trying to lead a film written like a group project where no one replied in the WhatsApp group chat.

The villain? Generic. The plot? Feels like a season one pilot of a show no one asked for.
The action? Looks like someone watched The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and said, “Hmm, let’s recycle this with slightly more fireworks.”
The emotional weight? Imagine trying to cry during a cutscene in a mobile game ad.

This movie somehow manages to make you miss the chaotic energy of Civil War and the layered storytelling of Winter Soldier. Here, it’s more like: “Let’s walk slowly through a political metaphor, sprinkle in a few fight scenes, and end with a trailer for Phase 27.”

Oh, and the CGI? Let’s just say some TikTokers are doing more with less.

So yeah — this felt like a warm-up episode. A placeholder. A soft reboot of a soft reboot.
And while the Captain may be new, the World just doesn’t feel brave at all.

Final verdict:
If this is the future of superhero movies, maybe we do need a multiverse reset.
5/10 — only because the popcorn was good.

Movie: Captain America: Brave New World (2025)
Alt Title: Sergeant America and the Case of the Missing Avengers

Let’s talk about Captain America: Brave New World, Marvel’s latest attempt at convincing us that the show is still going on — even though the stars have left, the writers are freelancing, and the main plot has clearly been outsourced to a committee.

This film is directed by Julius Onah, a filmmaker with a solid indie background (Luce, The Cloverfield Paradox). Now, directing a Marvel film is no small feat — it’s like being asked to conduct an orchestra with half the instruments missing and Disney executives breathing down your neck. Onah tries to infuse the film with grit and real-world commentary, but in a universe where aliens, gods, and raccoons with guns exist, the attempt at realism feels both noble and slightly confused.

Anthony Mackie steps up into the boots of Captain America — officially this time — but you can tell the man is fighting two battles: one against the bad guys, and the other against a script that desperately wants to be deep but keeps tripping over itself. Sam Wilson’s internal conflict about leadership, legacy, and race could’ve been powerful… but here it’s watered down to surface-level monologues sandwiched between shaky cam action and “are we still in the MCU?” dialogue.

Supporting cast? Well, Harrison Ford shows up as Thaddeus Ross, replacing the late William Hurt. He’s grumpy, presidential, and very obviously wondering if he left the stove on at home. Ford’s legendary charisma feels underused — like giving a lion a collar and telling it to play dead.

Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres) is clearly being set up as the next Falcon, and while he’s charming enough, the character development is thinner than a shawarma wrap.
Carl Lumbly returns as Isaiah Bradley — and remains the emotional heartbeat of every scene he’s in — but again, limited screen time.

Now the real problem? Where are the Avengers?
Seriously — is this a Captain America movie or a deleted episode from Secret Invasion?

Not a whisper of Sam texting Bucky, not a cameo from Doctor Strange peeking into alternate timelines, not even a sarcastic call from Rhodey. We get it — the MCU is in transition — but this felt more like “Captain America: Witness Protection Program.” No synergy, no sense of a shared universe. Just Sam trying to solve geopolitical issues alone like he doesn’t have superhero contacts on speed dial.

Let’s also talk about the cinematic texture. The film looks flat. The cinematography lacks that iconic Marvel flair, and at times feels like a well-budgeted network show rather than a billion-dollar cinematic universe. The action sequences are decent, but nothing memorable. You won’t walk out quoting lines or replaying scenes in your head. It’s a movie that happens to you, not with you.

The Plot?
Generic villain with a grudge. Global instability. A chase to stop a dangerous technology. Haven’t we done this before? Oh wait — we’ve done this 12 times.

The Themes?
Power, identity, and responsibility… again. But without the nuance or surprise. Everything here feels like it was written in a first draft and never punched up.

Final Verdict:

Captain America: Brave New World is not a terrible film — it’s just painfully mid. It’s a film that tries to be grounded in reality, but ends up being grounded in mediocrity. With a lack of team synergy, underdeveloped characters, and a story that feels like episode 2 of a show that skipped episode 1, the movie lands with a soft thud.

We miss the days when MCU films felt like events. This one feels like homework.

5/10 — for effort, for Mackie’s commitment, and for trying to do something different. But it’s time Marvel stopped building trailers and started making actual movies again.
