Ryan Gosling’s involvement in Star Wars: Starfighter extends far beyond his on-screen performance. In a recent interview, director Shawn Levy shared details about the Project Hail Mary star on set. The actor’s contributions go beyond just acting, according to the director.

After working on the upcoming Star Wars movie together, Gosling has become one of Levy’s most trusted collaborators.

In an interview with People, the director said, “Some actors are great muses, right? Some actors are just amazing on screen, and you’re inspired to tell that story. The thing about Gosling is he’s a great muse, and he’s inspiring, but he’s also a great partner.”

“He thinks like a full-spectrum creative,” Levy continued. “He’s an artist. He’s an incredible actor, but he’s also thinking about the lighting and the fabric on the wall. He’s noticing everything.”

Gosling served as executive producer on Starfighter, alongside the director and Lucasfilm’s president, Kathleen Kennedy. According to Levy, the La La Land actor was a “fully proactive partner, both [for] views and collaborating.”

In Star Wars: Starfighter, Gosling is reported to play Kade Auberon, a cynical pilot whose life takes a sharp turn when he is pulled into a high-stakes mission to protect a young boy from emerging threats. The narrative takes place in a fractured, rebuilding galaxy set five years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Ryan Gosling & Shawn Levy will reunite for MCU’s Ghost Rider

Gosling will next reunite with the Starfighter director Shawn Levy in the MCU’s Ghost Rider. He was recently announced as the face of the flaming-skull antihero. Moreover, it was confirmed that Levy would be directing, reuniting the two for a collaboration right after their work on the Star Wars movie.

When it came to their collaboration, the director said, “This collaboration felt really good to both of us. Trust developed. We found that we brought each other to better work because of each other. So after we wrapped, we just started talking about what else we might do together.”

Star Wars: Starfighter is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 28, 2027, while the proposed Ghost Rider project is eyeing a potential July 28, 2028 release.
