The teaser for Ron Howard’s Eden has been released, and it seems like the perfect paradise of a movie. Of course, that was said in sarcasm as Vanessa Kirby’s character, alongside several people, goes absolutely crazy in this survival thriller, which is based on a true story.
The teaser starts outright with a jarring image that the island of Floreana in the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador, isn’t the paradise that they were hoping for. The only rule is survival, as three groups of Europeans inhabit Floreana, and they are not nice people.

Following the recent fame with The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Vanessa Kirby shines as Dora Strauch Ritter, the wife of Dr. Friedrich Ritter, who lives on the island undisturbed until two other groups arrive.
Well, her character certainly feels like someone who has lived in a secluded place for a long time. More than the distrustful nature, the teaser reveals several important things about the kind of movie that we are in for.

Judging from the trailer, Vanessa Kirby’s character seems to be quite distrusting of people, as the couple had been living in complete isolation for quite some time. However, their respite from the world is short-lived as another couple comes to the uninhabited island in hopes of peace themselves.
Despite their neighbourly behaviours, Dora Strauch Ritter remains distrustful and insecure about the paradise that she and Dr. Ritter had created on Floreana.
Some of the moments from the teaser feature Mrs. Ritter being cold and distant while also being a powerhouse who can go to any lengths to protect her peace. Considering Ron Howard’s direction, it can be assumed that the thriller flick will end in violence and a final showdown with a peaceful epilogue in the end.
Ron Howard’s Bizarre Events in Eden Are Based on a True Story
The events have been captured in a book titled Satan Came to Eden: A Survivor’s Account of the “Galapagos Affair” (via Goodreads). More popularly known as the “Galapagos Affair”, the events of Ron Howard’s film are based on a true story that took place post World War I.
A couple, Dr. Ritter and his wife, fled from Germany after World War I had ended to settle on the isle of Floreana. With an economic crisis and the world recovering from a devastating war, the Ritters wanted to leave it all behind to find a safe haven for peace.
The man who had piloted the boat for the couple comes back and spreads the tale, which brings unwanted attention and a spotlight on the couple. Soon, a second couple joins Dr. Ritter and Mrs. Ritter on the island. Finally, a baroness, with two devoted lovers, joins the island, and with it, a power struggle ensues.
