Peaky blinders movie what happened between barry keoghan sabrina carpenter controversy explained
Spread the love

Peaky Blinders is coming back, but this time in a film titled Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. Led by Saltburn famed Barry Keoghan, the film will be set in 1940s Birmingham with a new generation of young men (via Empire Magazine).

While the Oscar-nominated Irish actor embarks on a new journey in his career, his past, particularly his relationship with American pop star Sabrina Carpenter, continues to make headlines. Their romance, which began in late 2023, captivated fans as they attended events together, supported each other’s careers, and even collaborated creatively.

However, by late 2024, the relationship had ended amid swirling rumors of Keoghan being allegedly unfaithful (via StyleCaster). Though neither Keoghan nor Carpenter ever issued a joint public statement confirming the precise reasons for the breakup, here is what we know about their relationship and eventual breakup.

What Went Wrong Between Barry Keoghan and Sabrina Carpenter?

Barry Keoghan and Sabrina Carpenter first sparked romance rumors in December 2023. The pair were seen together at a dinner in Los Angeles and frequently appeared in public together, including at red-carpet events like the Met Gala. Their relationship was widely covered in entertainment media throughout 2024 (via Elle).

They supposedly met at Givenchy’s spring/summer 2024 show and made their first public appearance at W’s Grammys after-party. Then on June 6, 2024, their iconic collaboration dropped: Sabrina Carpenter’s music video for Please, Please, Please.

However, it was from mid-2024 that the couple’s relationship started going downhill, at least in the eyes of the media. A series of rumors and social media narratives quickly emerged, with allegations of infidelity on Keoghan’s side. However, these were later dismissed to be rumors.

While they became frequent subjects of fan commentary, they had broken up by December 2024. Back then, a source told PEOPLE that they are both young and career-focused, so they’ve decided to take a break. Although reps for the two stars did not offer any comments, the source suggested that conflicting schedules and individual priorities likely drove a wedge between the two.

However, the rumors of infidelity continued, and rumors suggested that influencer Breckie Hill had something to do with their breakup. But Hill later denied any involvement or even having met Keoghan in a TikTok post made on December 4, 2024.

Following their split, the Saltburn star was subjected to intense hate and backlash, leading him to deactivate his Instagram account and state on X that he can only sit and take so much. A source close to PEOPLE also denied the rumors, claiming the actor was always faithful to Carpenter and that they indeed had a great and supportive relationship.

Sabrina Carpenter’s Alleged Musical ‘Revenge’ From Barry Keoghan

While a part of the internet continues to believe in rumors and unproven allegations, one interesting aftermath of Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan’s breakup is her music.

In February, Carpenter released a new version of Please, Please, Please. The music video was part of the deluxe edition of the Short n’ Sweet album and featured Dolly Parton in a black and white video.

The two appear to be driving a pickup truck with the police on their heels. Later, the two women are seen loading shovels onto the truck, and a man is seen with his hand tied and a bag over his head, in the back of the truck.  Interestingly, the man was wearing the same outfit as Keoghan in the original music video, and the original MV ended with Carpenter handcuffing Keoghan and taping his mouth shut. Many fans saw this as a direct hit to the actor.

Later on, in June 2025, the pop star released her track Manchild. Some listeners also interpreted it as referencing Keoghan or their relationship. The lyrics, including lines like “Man-child / Why you always come a-running to me?” fueled conversation about whether the song was a form of personal response or commentary on her romantic experiences.

Well, the Espresso singer has not explicitly confirmed if the song Manchild or the new music video for Please Please Please is a musical ‘revenge’ towards her ex-boyfriend. What are your thoughts about the matter? Let us know in the comments below.
