In the world of Black Clover, Asta can summon swords that are infused with Anti-Magic. The specialty of his swords is that they can cut through magic, but are reduced to blunt weapons otherwise. This aspect of Asta’s swords has bothered many fans.
In a Reddit post, user u/FilipinoAirlines highlighted:
Asta having a sword but only using it to bonk people instead of slicing feels so wrong-u/FilipinoAirlines
Asta, wielding a rusty, ancient, and completely dull sword as his primary weapon,n is probably one of the most frustrating creative decisions, at least from the perspective of fans.
Asta’s Comically Dull Swords Have Worn Out Their Welcome

When Asta pulls out his swords, they look extremely cool as they glow with anti-magic and create a menacing aura. Of course, their magic absorption powers also make Asta’s swords a huge threat to his magic-wielding enemies. Yet, once Asta swings the sword and it never cuts through anything, it turns out to feel funny, not impressive.
As the trope repeats continuously, and Asta bashes someone with his swords instead of actually slicing anything, the joke becomes thinner and thinner. The fact that the swords can nullify magic makes them OP weapons in a magic-dominated world, but was it really necessary to make them comically dull?
Compared to other Shonen protagonists, this trope puts Asta at an advantage. Once the anti-magic part is over, Asta’s default battle plan is just to hit his enemies till they stop moving because of blunt force trauma.
Black Clover Robbed Asta of His Terrifying Potential

A sharper Anti-Magic sword would have been actually terrifying. The swords could have been equipped with the ability to steal the magic of anyone it slices or even nicks. It would have made Asta a bigger threat to his enemies. Even though the Demon Slasher-Katana is capable of selective cutting, it just never feels enough.
Had Asta been equipped with a sharp sword, he would have been able to drastically improve his skillset instead of just depending on brute force. He would have been able to pull off dangerous slashes, a range of cutting techniques, and even precise disarms. This is something that he should have been able to do since the beginning of the series, as it would also help him develop sharper swordsmanship skills.
The blunt sword trope might have worked to show off Asta’s physical superiority and willpower in a world filled with makes to the brim. Yet, making his weapons centuries-old rusted swords feels like a creative misstep, which impacts the anime’s fight choreography as well as Asta’s intimidation factor.
