Spoiler Alert !!!This article contains spoilers for One Piece Episode 1147.
After the buildup we witnessed in the past One Piece Episode, I walked into Episode 1147 expecting a solid piece of action. And while the episode delivered some cool moments, overall, it felt uneven. It opened a little slower than the previous episodes, and the developments dragged a bit before it really got going. However, it slowly caught up with the pace as the Five Elders tried their best to stop Vegapunk’s global broadcast about their secret.
Personally, I appreciated seeing familiar faces reacting to the broadcast and getting meaningful screen time, and I was excited by the hints of big revelations coming, but I also felt the episode didn’t quite stick the landing. The balance between build-up and payoff felt off, and even though it kept me hooked, I felt that the broadcast would definitely become a big problem for the One Piece anime in the future.
Five Elders Battle Time and the Straw Hats to Stop the Broadcast
In all honesty, the latest One Piece Episode did a great job in establishing the fact that the world’s status is threatened by Vegapunk’s transmission, and the Five Elders move with urgency, deploying resources and pulling strings to halt the broadcast before too much damage is done. However, what I liked about this was that even though the Straw Hats have no intention to stop the Five Elders from ruining the broadcast, they are still getting in their way and thus creating problems, which is circumstantial.
I liked how there were moments showing members of the Straw Hat crew reacting, intervening, or at least preparing for confrontation with the Five Elders. From Sanji landing a satisfying kick on Nusjuro to Nami, Brook, Usopp, and Chopper defending Nico Robin from Saturn, these special moments made me realize that the real confrontation between the Straw Hats and the Five Elders has subtly begun in One Piece. It felt to me that these moments were the highlight of the episode’s action.
However, what really weighed down the developments was pacing. The build-up felt stretched out in different places, and there were moments where the story seemed to stall just when things should have been moving faster. It made me feel like we are waiting for something bigger, which might be good for the future of One Piece, but it affected the essence of this episode. Still, I am interested to see how much impact the Straw Hats will actually have on the Five Elders’ actions going forward.
Vegapunk’s Shocking Revelation Shakes the World and the Story

As I mentioned above, I have a feeling that Vegapunk’s broadcast might become a problem for One Piece in the future. I felt like this because even though the reveal is big, the way it is handled in the anime drags the momentum of the story. Vegapunk’s message threatens to change how the world works, shaking the foundations of power. It has global implications that should be accompanied by a sense of urgency and thrill, but the different elements that are aligned with it make it feel slow and slightly annoying.
The Episode’s pacing slipped because it devoted a large chunk to build-up and foreshadowing rather than immediate fallout, and I am pretty sure that this will continue for the upcoming factions of the broadcast as well. One Piece fans who are expecting lots of action or rapid plot progression, I can assure you that this might feel disappointing, and you should be ready to witness this until the broadcast is completed. While I am sure that the story will have different moments focusing on battles and action sequences, the message will add a pause to them and thus, will slow it down.
Nonetheless, Vegapunk’s global broadcast about the world sinking sets the stage for serious consequences and deep narrative shifts, which are always exciting to witness in One Piece. Even though the anime might test my patience with the pacing of the upcoming installments, I am intrigued to see how the fallout stretches across the Egghead Island arc.
One Piece is currently available to watch on Crunchyroll.
