Arne Slot, in a new interview, has addressed speculations surrounding his relationship with Mohamed Salah as AFCON 2025 kicks off.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has played down any suggestion of tension with Mohamed Salah after the Egyptian returned to action in Saturday’s Premier League clash against Brighton.

Salah had been left out of Liverpool’s midweek Champions League victory over Inter Milan following a controversial interview in which he claimed the club had failed to protect him and hinted at a breakdown in his relationship with the manager.

The forward made his first appearance since that outburst during the 3–3 draw with Leeds United, coming off the bench in the 26th minute against Brighton after Joe Gomez was forced off through injury.

Salah nearly made an instant impact, combining neatly with Alexis Mac Allister, but the move broke down when the Argentine opted to pass instead of taking a shot. Despite the missed opportunity, the 33-year-old remained influential throughout the game.

His persistence paid off in the second half when his corner delivery was met by Hugo Ekitike, who headed home to extend Liverpool’s lead and effectively seal the win.

Following the match, Slot dismissed any talk of an ongoing issue with his star forward.

“For me, there’s no problem to solve,” the Dutch coach said. “He’s treated like every other player. You speak to players when necessary, whether you’re happy or not, but after what happened against Leeds, there’s nothing more to discuss.”

Speaking separately to Sky Sports, Slot praised Salah’s performance and influence.

“He was a constant threat,” Slot said. “With his very first touch, he almost set up Mac Allister. He was heavily involved, which was pleasing to see but not surprising. It was an easy decision to include him in the squad. What has been said between us stays between us. We needed him, and he delivered an assist for the second goal.”

Slot also acknowledged Liverpool’s upcoming challenge with Salah set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations, while expressing hope that injured players could return soon to bolster the squad.
