With the Nippon Sangoku Episode 11 released on June 14, 2026, we essentially enter the final parts of the war. Despite every small detail shown in the episode, the revelation of Misumi’s plan to trap Seii in a deceiving ambush became the main highlight of the episode.

In terms of production, the episode was pretty much what we already expect from the series – nothing too extravagant or too mid, just the correct amount. With that being said, let’s jump right into a quick recap and review of the latest episode from the Nippon Sangoku anime series, Episode 11.

Misumi Reveals His Master Plan to Trap Seii in an Ambush

After the massive cliffhanger from Episode 10, the latest episode finally delved into why Misumi suddenly suggested that no reinforcements should be sent to Fukuya and that the Emperor should withdraw from the war. According to him, General Yasuaki Kaku had a gut feeling about Seii’s border war strategy and foresaw the attack. Kaku had planned that sending Yamato reinforcements would actually play into the enemy’s hands.
However, this was handed to Misumi in the form of a cryptic riddle, which he uncovered. So Misumi did not actually want a retreat for the Yamato army, but a formal withdrawal; an imperial edict would completely convince the Seii army that Yamato is giving up. In return, the forces will draw the Seii army into a deadlock valley where they will block the path with wagons, ambushing and trapping Seii’s army. This was the Shimazu ambush tactic.
Knowing that Denki Taira effectively controls Yamato’s government, Aoteru takes a risky approach using his political skills and the influence Mitsuhide Ryumon previously cultivated with the Emperor. The Emperor, who was mainly a puppet at the hands of Denki, finally grows a backbone and writes down the order written for Misumi to go forward with this plan.
Seii’s Winter General Strategy Finally Begins
Meanwhile, Seii has already begun its Winter General Strategy – picking up small sections at the borderlands and attacking them at once to pressurise the Yamato army. By the end of the episode, the imperial withdrawal order successfully reaches the key players on the battlefield. It reaches from the Emperor to Aoteru Misumi and then through Yoshitsune Asama and finally to Ryumon – setting the stage for the decisive final phase of the campaign.
Wajima was totally gaslighted about Yamato’s plans and started to think she was winning when reports came back of the withdrawal order issue. She saw this as a golden opportunity to push down further and invade more Yamato territories to claim under Seii. However, this is exactly what Misumi, Kaku, and Ryumon wanted.

The penultimate episode of Nippon Sangoku Season 1 was pretty much the setup for the war that’s about to come. Although it looked like a lot of information to process, the plan was actually very simple. The fluidity of the narrative and the rejection of the unnecessary stretching and overcomplicating of the episode is what makes it likeable.
Productively, the episode was the same as the average episode of the Nippon Sangoku episodes. However, there was a scene when Misumi walked away from the court, and the Emperor looked at him; it transitioned into a sketchy but admirable moment of the episode. Overall, it was a decent episode – the exact kind you need to relay the theme of the “calm before the storm”.
